This was a really special game. Robin van Persie scored his 39th, 40th and 41st goal for the Dutch national team, which makes him the all-time top scorer in Dutch history. He took this record from Patrick Kluivert (40 goals) who is now our assistant manager. Patrick Kluivert got his record exactly 10 years ago (to the day!) and now he passes it on to Robin

Conmebol qualys are awesome!
So are UEFA qualifiers, particularly the battle for the play-offs! Only one game left to play and so many possibilities still.

I'll quickly summarise the standings for UEFA at this point.

Group A
Belgium (Q)
Croatia (PO)

Group B
Italy (Q)
Bulgaria (PO?)
Denmark (PO?)

^ Bulgaria and Denmark both have 13 points after 9 games but Bulgaria have a better goal ratio (+6 vs. -1). Denmark could have made it much easier for themselves had they beaten Italy today but their game ended 2-2 with Italy equalising in the 92th minute. The next game will be decisive, Denmark has an easier schedule (home vs. Malta) than Bulgaria (home vs. Czech Republic). The Czech Republic can still finish 2nd if they win this game and Denmark draw or lose their game, but then it would be the worst runner-up and thus automatically disqualified for the PO.

Group C
Germany (Q)
Sweden (PO)

Group D
Netherlands (Q)
Turkey (PO?)
Romania (PO?)
Hungary (PO?)

^ Turkey and Romania both have 16 points after 9 games but Turkey have a better goal ratio (+9 vs. +5). However, Turkey have the more difficult schedule (home vs. Netherlands) compared to Romania (home vs. Estonia). Hungary can also still finish second if they beat Andorra at home (should be no problem) and Turkey and Romania both lose (or Romania draw while Hungary beat Andorra by at least 6 goals).

Group E
Switzerland (Q)
Iceland (PO?)
Slovenia (PO?)

^ Iceland have 16 points after 9 games, Slovenia have 15. Iceland seem to have the better chances here as it plays its next game away to Norway, while Slovenia faces a tricky away game to Switzerland.

Group F
Russia (Q/PO)
Portugal (Q/PO)

^ Russia and Portugal are both guaranteed at least a play-off spot. Russia will almost certainly win this group as it leads with 21 points (while Portugal have 18 points) and has a superior goal ratio (+15 vs. +8). Russia's next game is away to Azerbaijan while Portugal play Luxembourg at home.

Group G
Bosnia (Q/PO)
Greece (Q/PO)

^ Bosnia and Greece are both guaranteed at least a play-off spot. Both teams have 22 points after 9 games but Bosnia have a much superior goal difference (+23 vs. +6). However, Greece have a home game against Liechtenstein ahead (should be an easy win) while Bosnia play Lithuania away.

Group H
England (Q/PO)
Ukraine (Q/PO)

^ England and Ukraine are both guaranteed at least a play-off spot. England have 19 points (next game Poland home) while Ukraine have 18 points (next game San Marino away). Theoretically, Montenegro can still claim second place but only if it beats Moldova by 12 goals and Ukraine lose to San Marino. In other words: impossible.

Group I
Spain (Q/PO)
France (Q/PO)

^ Spain and France are both guaranteed at least a play-off spot. Spain have 17 points and a goal ratio of +9, France have 14 points and a goal ratio of +6. Spain's next game is at home against Georgia while France play Finland at home.

Argentina beat Peru 3-1 without Messi, Higuain, Mascherano or Gago . Basically a B team still won with authority against Peru. At this point, Argentina, with 32 points, is not only guarantee the 1st spot in Southamerican qualys with one game still to play, but its 5 points ahead the second one (COlombia 27 points).
Not only the best team in SA, but probably in the world right now

Man Patrick Kluivert was a legend, RVP deserves to be right up there with him.

they still might be left out of the world cup if they don't at least get a point in their last game against costa rica. panama is home against the usa.If panama wins and mexico loses on the road to costa rica then it will be panama and not mexico who get the playoff spot.

If Spain is so great, why havent they qualified yet?

I just think they are not on the same level of wc 2010, and they are past their prime hour and their players are worn out and they are just not good enough. Theres no way they are able to win in southamerica, imo.

Brazil and Germany are another story. Both can win it all. But im hoping Argentina will upset them. Against Germany we have the "being locals" (almost) advantage, with all the crowd there, and against Brazil....Argentina team is just better. But they are truly locals and you can never underestimate Brazil. But i do think those 3 are the best teams now.

Today Colombia and Chile both showed they are not up to the task, and are not at the level some people put them (Colombia for losing for so long so bad on home soil and basically playing really bad and Chile for not being able to secure a result of 3-0)

So, with this in mind, i think is ARG, BRA and GER for the race to the trophy
