Apparently some people neef earthquake amd dynamo names to get em all excited for some reason ...
Earthquakes are a part of life in CA, I think the name is fitting...I don't get the Real thing though and the Sporting name is strange. Dynamo, I always assumed, had a dual meaning between the other soccer clubs (what, like 6 of them with that name in other countries?) and the energy industry in Houston. They should have stolen the Oilers name from the NFL.
There are many places that take on a geographic or weather characteristic, some of which aren't favorable - such as the Iowa State Cyclones, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Colorado Rockies, etc
I don't think "earthquakes" is a particularly strong name - just like I think "thunder" is pretty dopey ..... but at least they fit the area, despite being bad ... which is a slight improvement over bad and irrelevant
A part of life? Well An area prone to flooding can maybe change their name then!
Dundee Flooders, Dundee Utd Dark Clouds, Liverpool Stolen Hubcaps, Shelbourne Drunktards, St Patricks Syringes, Cork Slightly Overcast. Yeh yeh man I see a theme, the whole world should be American!!!! Its a great idea.
How about americans being americans - that's acceptable, right?
Also, let's not pretend that english teams don't have nicknames associated with their local geography - although most lean towards their colors and the local industry

Yeah .... really not sure what he's getting at....... not a point to be found that I can see
I'm sure it's a shocking concept that a team/fanbase would want a nickname that is somewhat associated with them, the area, etc.
I'm also sure that in England if a new club started and they took a popular name and adapted it, despite having no real tie to how that name developed that the club would be mocked
It's not American specific to have a nickname that is representative to that team, the location, the industry, the colors, etc
Would anyone argue that Blades is more appropriate for Sheffield than Mariners?
Would anyone argue that having the nickname Blades is any different than a team from Pittsburgh going by Steelers?
