i never really followed soccer that much because i'm more of a hockey fan so can someone tell me what david beckham was famous for when he played for manchester united?

was he known for his assisting, passing, dribbling, or what?

i DO NOT care about his celebrity image because i just want to know what he was famous for as a soccer player.

His amazing accuracy and astonishing free kick abilities to start... He scored something like 65 free kick goals in his career.

His range of passing was incredible, which in soccer is as important as any other skill. He also read the game perfectly, always knowing where the ball needed to go next. And whereas so many great English players have struggled playing for their country, Beckham was usually superb.

He was never the best player in the world and could appear clumsy at times, but his free kicks could change the course of a game even if his team weren't playing well. His ability to pass with such great accuracy and distance was a joy to watch.

I think he really helped raise the profile of the MLS during his time at LA Galaxy. I do believe he perhaps regretted not staying in Europe at least until his mid 30's. This was evident in his last ditch attempt when he played a few games for PSG before retiring.

I don't care for all the glitz surrounding him, but he was one of the most dedicated players for England over the last 15 years. He never has much pace to begin with so his game didn't really suffer that much as he aged.

Despite all the glitter & glamour, he was a damn fine player. Specifically, he had a fabulous long pass. Always enjoyed seeing him play, even if my preference goes to types such as Xavi or Laudrup, masters of the short pass.

I thought he went to PSG to win a championship in another country. He is the only English player to win championships in 4 countries (England, Spain, USA, France).

He had amazing long range passing.

- Scored one of the great Premier League goals in 1996
- Got sent off for England in the 98 World Cup, when the team were in a good position against Argentina
- Won the Treble in 1999 (European Cup, Champions League, FA Cup)
- Reedemed himself by scoring a freekick to get England to the 2002 World Cup
