No need for that kind of insular hostility.
Why does the fact that I don't care if the Dutch rate their team or not mean that I am 'anti-European'???

Quite frankly the English couldn't give a monkeys what the Dutch think about their team or what the Spanish think of theirs yet every English team news story in (for eg) the Sun has Europeans commenting on the English game (rant over).
If England is not a big country in football (in terms of population) then there are no big countries in football, period.

And I'm not at all obsessed with the English NT, lol. The only thing I said was that the results of the English NT are underwhelming if you consider the size of the population and the footballing tradition. I mean, if your best result in the past 47 years is reaching a SF in 1990, I think "underwhelming" is putting it rather nicely. You're wondering why I'm not equally critical of France, well France has won a WC and two Euros in that same time period, and also made it to two more SF and a final.

You're still in denial about this?

If you don't want people to think you're anti-European, stop complaining about other European countries every chance you get. It's that simple.

It's the impression I get from a lot of your posts (in other sections of the forum). You are also very aggressive when it comes to anything pertaining to Europe. We've had so many arguments here over it

If you look at all of the European national teams with populations of over 30 million or so, all are successful or extremely successful:

Italy
Spain
France
Germany

The odd man out:

England

Even these countries with populations under 30 million have better national teams than England (in terms of talent of players):

Netherlands
Belgium
Portugal

England are roughly on a par with Denmark.

That's only Western Europe though. There's also Russia (144 million), Turkey (75 million), Ukraine (45 million) and Poland (38 million) but these are not traditional football powerhouses. For me, based on competitive results, the only European countries that can be considered traditional powers are England, Portugal, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Italy and France. Of these countries, England has definitely performed the worst in recent years, so much so that it is starting to lose its status as a traditional power. The difference becomes clear if you compare England's success since 1966 to the other countries I mentioned:

England (53 million)
World Cup: SF (1990)
Euro: SF (1996)

Portugal (10.5 million)
World Cup: SF (2006)
Euro: F (2004), SF (1984), SF (2000), SF (2012)

Netherlands (16.5 million)
World Cup: F (1974), F (1978), F (2010), SF (1998)
Euro: F (1988), SF (1976), SF (1992), SF (2000), SF (2004)

Spain (46.5 million)
World Cup: F (2010)
Euro: F (2008), F (2012), SF (1984)

France (66 million)
World Cup: F (1998), F (2006), SF (1982), SF (1986)
Euro: F (1984), F (2000), SF (1996)

Italy (59.5 million)
World Cup: F (1970), F (1982), F (1994), F (2006), SF (1978), SF (1990)
Euro: F (1968), F (2000), F (2012), SF (1980), SF (1988)

Germany (80.5 million)
World Cup: F (1974), F (1982), F (1986), F (1990), F (2002), SF (1970), SF (2006), SF (2010)
Euro: F (1972), F (1976), F (1980), F (1992), F (1996), F (2008), SF (1988), SF (2012)

Still, England do usually make it to the QF so they're not terrible. Currently, they're a decent European side just below the top teams, similar to countries like Sweden, Russia or Ukraine.

But I haven't complained about other European countries!! I only ask why it is that many other nationals (I'm not even saying its just European nationals!) are obsessed about what the English think of their own national team. God help you if your'e English and say something positive about the team, I've seen it on countless occasions - there is nothing gauranteed to 'get under' the skin of a foreign football supporter (not necessarily European) than an Englishman saying anything in support of their team, I don't actually care, it doesn't make me 'hate Europeans', I'm just wondering why because to be honest with you despite what I often read about how 'overrated' the English team is I've never actually met an Englishman who 'overrates' the English team. In fact most are extremely apathetic about the team and its chances but Just try posting something like 'I think England have a chance to win the world cup next year' and see the reaction you get! lol. The Premier League is the be all and end all to most English football fans, in fact this may be the problem with English footbal, there is not the same enthusiasm in the country for the world cup or international competitions as there used to be and it seems many of the young players aren't too bothered about the national team anymore either. Anyway I am sorry but I can't see where saying what I have said has made me 'anti European' in any way?

England have never exactly been a powerhouse, they only robbed a World Cup and have been living off of that since.

You seem to conveniently completely ignore the first 80 years or so of the game I see.

When England won all those tournaments? You should draw up a list on a postage stamp so we can all be in awe.
