And frankly (being a Chelsea fan) recently I have been taking more interest in the Belgian team!! (Im liking Hazards potential!) :-)

England has 53 million people. That does make England a big country in football because of the traditional powers, only Brazil and Germany are significantly larger. England is only slightly smaller than Italy in terms of population. Yet England has nowhere near the legacy that Italy has in football.

Yep. 53 million. I mean for a country with such strong footballing tradition you'd expect it to have one of the top national teams in the world. Belgium's population is 1/5th of that, yet most of the current England players would struggle to get in the current Belgium national team.

Its still not a big country - and the point I'm making is why oh why do you care? Why are people obsessed with English football? Forums are FULL of people from all over the world (particularly Europe) constantly harping on about the English national team, why don't they go and bug the French instead for a change? Quite frankly the English couldn't give a monkeys what the Dutch think about their team or what the Spanish think of theirs yet every English team news story in (for eg) the Sun has Europeans commenting on the English game (rant over).

You need to get out from under your rock if you dont know why a majority of the world has an opinion on the England team and English football. Its the most hyped league in the world and on in every country, its the most available league to people in terms of coverage so of course people take an interest in it and the national team.

Why the hostility? Not all of us British people are so anti European. You give the majority a bad name in that regard

No need for that kind of insular hostility.

Even if the Premier League is the worlds most popular league I still don't see why the English national team supporters seem to 'get under the skin' of so many?
