Having a draft is nothing more than socialism because it rewards the worst teams for their failure. It is not much different than governments rewarding the losers in life with handouts that are paid for by the productive members of society. The worst teams should be relegated instead, like they are in Europe.
....I don't get this.
In NO way is having the first pick of the draft a "reward", it's a business move by the league for EACH team. It's sports, not politics. The objective isn't to have lopsided leagues where a handful of teams are always at the top.

It does reward bad teams for failing. How does it not? You sucked and now here is Lebron James.
If your argument for a draft is to avoid lop sided leagues then yes I your point with respects to drafts and leagues like the NBA and NFL. But, the lop sided league argument doesn't work for MLS and soccer. The best players don't come through the draft. If you take your lop sided league argument to its natural conclusion then you must get rid of academies as well.
So the teams that fail are just supposed to continue to fail...?
Under a system with salary caps, are you saying that the draft is the only way to improve a team? I would think that if there was no draft in the MLS and players could sign up for teams as they wish, they would be shopping teams for the best offers available...in terms of salary, potential to play at the highest level, player development, facilities, maybe closeness to family or home, etc.
You may say that teams in NYC or LA will get all the players, but if a team has a deep academy system, the ability of a player to get out of the academy ranks is hindered. This would lead players to go to where the opportunities are.
then lazy people who fail should be rewarded by the government, otherwise they will continue to fail.
Take your political b.s. somewhere else, please.
