United were beaten 2.1 by Stoke City. United fielded Rooney, Van Persie & Mata.

They did have those three playing.

In fairness they lost two defenders to injury during the game, and Stoke's first goal took an horrendous deflection.

That's the first time Stoke have beaten ManU in thirty years.

They have lost eight games in the league already, and their record number of losses for an entire season in the PL is nine.

That squad needed a lot more bolstering than just one very good player they got in Mata.

England is Europe, so, by default, yes.

Champions League? Absolutely not. I find the crumbling quite amusing. Wonder how much of this is on Moyes or is Sir Alex bowed out for a reason. Maybe he could foresee the troubles ahead?

Ferguson had a team that had peaked some time ago.

I'm not a fan of his but he was very good at getting the best out of a team that individually were not the best.

I think that any manager would be having a rough time at the moment and it hasn't been helped by the continuing injury list.

I hope they avoid the Europa league. It would hurt then next season, the Thursday games and the travel are such an energy suck. Then, even if you win, you are champions of the European also rans.

At this point, the best United realistically cane hope for is to finish 4th and get into the Champions League Qualification rounds. They're 13 points out of 3rd, so I think there's a good chance they don't make up the ground to finish top 3.

If they carry on playing the way they did against bottom of the table Fulham then they won't be in Europe at all.

Europa League at best. The top 4 are much too strong in the Prem this year, plus I do not see them winning the CL this season either. Despite getting a pretty favorable draw for the Round of 16.

I am curious to see how large of an exodus there will be if they do not qualify for CL next season. No SAF and no CL could mean quite a few players handing in transfer papers next summer.
