Relative ease? Obviously we watched two separate games because the Dutch seemed caged in. It took til the last twenty mins for them to break away. Chile had more than one shot too. I'd say chile lost in the final of the second half
Nope, that was our plan from the start. The Dutch were not caged in at all, we just let Chile wear themselves out (as they typically do, that is why they were a lot weaker in the second half) while not giving away any real chances at all.
Chile did have one shot on goal compared to 8 shots on goal for us. Here are the match stats.
Keep in mind that Chile had to win this game whereas we only needed a draw. In that sense, you can't say Chile only "lost it" in the final of the second half. We were perfectly content with that 0-0, Chile wasn't but they were unable to do anything about it.
ESPN also needs to tone down the blatant homerism going on between Lalas and Twellman. The US blew a prime chance to secure a spot into the round of 16 and that fact seems to be a bit lost on some of the ESPN analysts.
Lalas is usually pretty good except when he has to analyze the aftermath of an US match. Seems like after every US match we hear nothing but happy talk. He loses his objectivity and seems to adopt the role of an rah rah cheerleader as if he is trying to motivate and keep up the spirits of the team instead of providing objective analysis and key instructive insights of the match for the viewers as if he is afraid to say anything that might be construed as negative about the team's play. One has to wonder does Lalas feels that the US team mental psyche is so fragile that any constructive criticism has the ability to affect them adversely mentally.

Did you say Lalas is pretty good??? He's horrible. I'm from Nigeria, and that guy is the most condescending towards all the African teams, incredibly dismissive, harping on our faults, yet whenever the American team comes up, he's praising them to the roof. If an alien from Mars listened to him to gain some idea about soccer, you would think the US was a soccer superpower, and not the middle of the pack team that it is. Don't get me wrong, I think the US has come a long way (with lots of help from all those foreign born players, but I digress), and deserved to win the Portugal game, but this is still a team that will NOT get anywhere near the finals, and I personally think you have to be smoking crack for Lalas to suggest that the US had a chance of beating Germany on Thursday. See he gases up the US's chances to the gullible American viewers, then when reality comes crashing down viewers switch off from soccer. TELL THE TRUTH AND STOP HYPING UP THE US TEAM. The irony is, as others have noted, Mexico might actually be somewhat of a scarier opponent at the moment than Brazil.
By the way, Russia and the United States can meet in 1/8. And I'm afraid that the United States have more likely to pass on.
