For the past couple of World Cups I've organized a fantasy league for (mostly) Americans who don't typically follow the sport. Usually, the league was pretty straightforward - pick 11 players, no more than 2 from any country, get points based on goals/assists/clean sheets. You only get 3 substitutions per the entire competition. For South Africa we used FSport, but they apparently are only doing motorsports now.

All of the sites I've found either require too much effort for the casual observer (managing a budget), not enough (bracket picks only) or are not available in the US. Is anyone aware of one that is out there?

Thanks!

Thanks, although currently they only have a "Coming Soon" splash page so I'll have to check back. I found the catch last time was that a lot of the newspaper and sports sites in the UK required you to register and only allowed for a UK address. We'll see about this one!

Believe it or not, possibly. The target audience typically doesn't follow soccer at any level and may not even be able to name a handful of players. Having them just pick the top 11 players often requires a good amount of encouragement, so throwing a budget on top of it could discourage many. The overall goal is to get people who wouldn't otherwise follow the WC to give something to pay attention to. Out of the past couple WCs we typically get a handful of people who become intrigued enough to start following club play.

I'd just go with a bracket then, TBH. I'd hope there are ones where you pick each group stage game (and not just the two who advance).

If you want to do a lot of work yourself, you could have each person pick 4 or 5 players they want to follow, then you could fill out the rest of their teams (for Fifa McDonald's game). Managing them isn't that hard and might be more fun/intresting for them.
