I hope Jozy Altidore returns soon as he could rejuvenate this US team and give them a new sense of confidence. He will certainly make the US team better, that's for sure.

USA advances in the World Cup and police say the crowds of thousands watching around southern California were well behaved with no incidents in the celebration. As opposed to the other night when Mexico advanced and people poured into the streets causing major traffic delays, road closures and multiple arrests leading police in riot gear to show up and make the crowds disperse. Pay attention Mexicans, keep it classy

Howard is king!
Glad the US has a world-class goalkeeper. He did his job and some. Leaking one goal to the Germans wasn't shabby! Klinsmann prepared the team well.
Onward and upward!

I mean, why would anyone go crazy about a loss?

They aren't going crazy over a loss.. but we are now advancing out of Group Stage. Most people didn't even think we were going to score a goal..

Most people around the world would've never thought the US would advance but Spain, England, Italy and Portugal remain.

Wasn't the game at 9am California time...hard to get properly liquored up for many. But I saw a number of star/stripe wearing fans hitting ATMs in local party areas around 0900. The other night the Mexico game was the afternoon game, so folks didn't have to start drinking until after lunch. But no reports of problems here (where El Tri also has a significant following). Only real issue was by folks who called into radio shows that ran machine and fabrication shops. They had to close for the afternoon so people wouldn't call in sick .

Didn't watch the game but was following the score from work. I'm so proud of our team, doing as well as they have against all odds. Big kudos to Howard for being such an excellent goalie.

One thing I also noticed about our team that is different from other teams: we don't get sucked into a lot of childish dramas that other more elite teams do. No flopping, no mocking gesture to the opposing team when we score, certainly no biting or hitting. Perhaps because we're still relatively new to soccer so we haven't picked up bad habits from the more experienced teams, and that's ok. Go team USA! I'm so proud of you!!

Nah, I really think it's just not in the DNA of most American athletes when they are on the world stage. No one wants to be the person that embarrasses our entire country. We're seeking sainthood.
