Typical rightwinger pulling c.... out of her ..... to support her propaganda.
Completely ignoring that the NFL is a "non-profit organization", it's an unionized league and the worst team always gets the #1 draft pick.
Add to that all the protection that players wear when they play....helmets, pads, gloves, etc, etc, etc.
The horror. Her reasons can be divided in 4 groups, I. Valid reasons II. Uninformed ignorant reasons, III irrational reasons, IV. Idiotic reasons
I. Valid reasons, we all can like or dislike whatever we want:
2. Almost noone scores
7. No other "sport" ends in as many scoreless ties as soccer.
5. Everyone just runs up and down the field and, every once in a while, a ball accidentally goes in. That's when we're supposed to go wild. I'm already asleep.
8. You can't use your hands in soccer.
II. Uninformed answers that make Anne look like an unprofessional idiot who doesn't do research before writing a piece:
1. The blame is dispersed
3. There are no heroes, no losers, no accountability, and no child's fragile self-esteem is bruised.
4. Do they even have MVPs in soccer?
III. Irrational reasons, she uses guilt by association.
6. Liberal moms like soccer because it's a sport in which athletic talent finds so little expression that girls can play with boys. No serious sport is co-ed, even at the kindergarten level.
10. It's foreign
11. Soccer is like the metric system, which liberals also adore because it's European
IV. Dumb reasons, Miss conservative only likes things that are popular? Who exactly is forcing soccer on her? and why is she redefining the word sport? I thought Obama was the fascist.
12. Soccer is not "catching on"
9. I resent the force-fed aspect of soccer.
13. The prospect of either personal humiliation or major injury is required to count as a sport
Three things why American conservatives and other, well, restricted human beings don't appreciate soccer:
1) They don't have a success story. For U-S-A-chanters the US has to be the best in everything, or otherwise it's nothing but pretending. Losing against Germany is nothing that can be accepted.
2) The rules aren't in the hands of American corporations. Americans can't simply change the rules of the game to make the game more ad- and consumer-friendly. If it's 90+5 minutes it is, and deal with it.
3) It's un-American. Soccer is something the Mexicans and other immigrants are just forcing upon us, it's like the Catholics in the early 20th century. Return to points 1 and 2.
Good points Ariete. I'm really perplexed on all that. Another thing I'm wondering abaout is that she must know which way the country is going demographically. Really before the century is out the Us will be 'latinized'. It is a fact. 'Whites' will not
be the majority. of course this will have implications for US society in all areas particularly sports. I have the feeling she doesn't want to give up the 'mantle' somehow. There's an uncomfortableness' with her that's coming out against the sport itself. But this is only an observation.
But have you guys not seen the videos and photos of the US matches? The crowds are mixed with a large percentage of white people. The Hispanic youth here in LA aren't as much into soccer as you'd think. The biggest fans I've met here are white and black (putting another Coulter canard to rest).
The biggest cities for soccer are Seattle and Kansas City, majority white cities.
Yeah I was thinking that, Seattle looks the best supported - and their supporters look mainly white.
Portland has batsh!@t crazy fans to and their rivalry with Seattle is intense. No idea the racial makeup, but wouldn't be surprised if it was primarily white.
