Qatar is a very conservative country. You can be refused service for just being a woman. They will tell you to bring your husband, father or brother. I don't know how locals are gonna deal with half naked women

I heard the date might be changed to avoid some of the worst heat.

I feel bad for the future players. The weather sucks, the culture is not easy. What was FIFA thinking?

Also I have heard they exploit immigrants badly so if Brazil was controversial I expect this to be worse

I am not at all impressed by Qatar 'winning' the bid.
Wow.That's crazy.

For further reading, there was a decent thread on Qatar/Russia earlier. A decent read with some linked articles.

World cup in Qatar and Russia, thoughts?

Agreed. I hope it goes off beautifully.

However, when the selection committee picks places based upon bribes and not common sense at some point there is going to be a horrendously hosted world cup....just a matter of time.

I need to eat pork ribs when watching WC matches. Will there be baby-backs available? How about bacon-wrapped hotdogs?

I think I read somewhere that if the allegations if bribery were true, and they are, that the US will step in to host. Probably rumors but wouldn't that be amazing? We would have the infrastructure and everything ready. It would be bigger than Brazil!

I heard the same thing about England hosting it in 2018 and USA in 2022 because they would have to redo both years.

I doubt the place will get changed, though. This is Fifa we are talking about and all they care about is the money in their pockets!
