From the moment FIFA president Sepp Blatter announced that Qatar was to host the worlds second most significant sporting event, everyone watching assumed there had to be a reason behind the most absurd decision FIFA had ever taken, a decision which, when filtered through the normal laws of logic made absolutely no sense.

And now we have apparent confirmation of what that reason was. Now we know for sure that it was all about money, put simply the world cup was bought. America has every right to investigate the goings on inside FIFA, the Swiss have begun their own investigation into the 2018 & 2022 world cup bidding process too.

FIFA is rotten to the core.

Lol, MiamiResident - you obviously have no clue on the happenings in FIFA if that is your stance.

FIFA is corrupted and rotten to the core. Thank god the Americans decided to do something about it - which they have every right to do, as corrupted transaction took place in American bank accounts.

Laughable as well that Putin has come out and criticized the US - another corrupt man himself.

....and now we are hearing that it's all on tape.

Whoooops! So much for a "they're out to get us" conspiracy. Going to be hilarious when all that comes out.

Also, those FIFA fat cats are going to turn on each other to get deals if they can but the taped conversations might mean they don't need that.

Writing this off as a US witch hunt just made some people look really really foolish....here come the tapes.

Anti-American sentiment? Where have we heard that before?

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
WORLD POLICEMAN

We turned Afghanistan into a thriving democracy.

We liberated Iraq and the people threw flowers at our soldiers' feet.

We rid Libya of a terrible tyrant and now it is a Club Med tourist destination

All this only cost 4 trillion dollars or so.

Now we are saving the futbol world, which is powerless to save itself, by arresting foreign nationals, bringing them back to the U-S of A, putting them on trial and hoping for the best. This will only cost tens of millions of dollars, a few hundreds of millions at the most – a real bargain.

I'M SO PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!!

There are no slaves building stadiums in Qatar. Qatar's GDP is 93,714 dollars per year and USA's GDP is 53,041 dollars per year.

The average Qatar resident is almost two times richer than the average U.S. resident.

So your point is that richer people are less likely to have slaves working for them.

Um.....you might want to stop by the local library and pick up some history books.

Do World Cup hosts , e.g Qatar and Russia etc, do they have to pay hosting fees to FIFA? Not referring to the illegal payments of which the current news are about, but like legitimate, over-the-table payments to FIFA as a commercial transaction.
