Right. The women had a big first mover advantage in this sport as other countries were/are late to the game, and then Title IX has helped the continued development of the women's game.

The men's game really developed very late in the history of global soccer. Also, Title IX ended up making soccer a good opportunity for women to receive money for college, but not men, due to the prevalence of American football.

Also, as a previous poster already said, the women are good against other women's teams, not compared to men's teams.

The USWNT lost to the USMNT U-17 squad 8-2 in 2012. This men's team would probably win by at least 12 if they played a full 90 at 100%. With that being stated, congrats to the women's team for winning it all.

Wow, that's interesting. I didn't realize they played boys team. I did a little research and found some threads about the USWNT playing boys teams, I guess there have been a number of scrimmages.

German teams are not easily defeated. I was surprised at the way they were beaten by USA, and you're right, their next meeting should be very exciting!

I did not know that, I knew the Swede's lost in similar fashion a number of years ago to a young boys team though.

Seems to be the case with most sports. Look at NCAA basketball, for example. #1 on the men's side changes often throughout the season due to upsets of some degree. On the women's side, #1 (quite often UCONN) vs #10 in the rankings could still be a 50-point win by UCONN.
