In hockey, there's almost always an offensive player standing right in front of the crease, and hockey isn't a cherry-picking game.
What??? Hockey has an offside rule, as well! The puck must enter the offensive zone before any attacking skater. If the puck leaves the zone, as attacking skaters must clear the zone and re-enter.

Oh, yeah, I know that. I'm just saying that once the team is in the offensive zone, you'll often see one player hang out right in front of the net, and there doesn't have to be two defenders between him and the net for a goal to count. So it's a different kind of offside in hockey.
A hockey style offsides would probably be pretty cool with an additional limitation on the crease but hey, it's not gonna happen so it's really a moot point.
ALOT for MLS and soccer in general to even compete with the Big Four.
If you look at the attendance problems of the NHL in many U.S. cities (even in "traditional" hockey markets in the North) and the growth of MLS (and immigrant group populations), I'd say soccer's got a good chance of knocking hockey out of the Big Four within just a few years.

It already has. The MLS has more TV contracts, on par with attendance, and I believe the MLS has passed them in sponsorship.

Precisely the reason the playoffs have been "set up" so that the Lakers/Celtics will be in the Finals. It will be a huge ratings boost and everyone will kind of get back into the NBA a bit.
And don't even try to say that it's not scripted. You think only 1 ref was involved in the betting scandal? You think it's a coincidence that Joey Crawford (the ref that was suspended for his shenanigans in Spurs games) was assigned to work game 4 of the Spurs/Lakers series? Hmm...and after the game, the NBA then admitted that a foul should have been called in the final seconds that could very well have changed the outcome.
The NBA is pulling out all the stops to keep itself as the #3...I give it 6 or 7 years before it's #4.
