Now Albania has to wait 1 week hoping they will be one of the best number 3's.
This doesn't make sense to me, next Euro Cup just back to 16 teams please!

It's nice to see nations that would not otherwise qualify try for a Cinderella story and $$$ is likely a major factor, I too would like to see a return to 16 nations. This is too much. Overkill almost.
Every group should be like Group E, Italy-Belgium-Sweden-Ireland.
Every group cannot be like Group E because there aren't enough talented teams to even have two or three groups like this.
Quote:
Last Euro Cup you had Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark in 1 group and Spain, Italy, Croatia and Ireland.
So what good is it if two of the "higher quality" (as perceived) teams bow out before the playoffs? Having two "good" and two "bad" teams per group ensures that quality (hopefully) flows to the top and the playoffs don't have walkover results.
The level of play at this year's tournament has been pretty great. Apart from Belgium beating Ireland 3-0 and Spain beating Turkey 3-0, almost all games have been competitive.
It's also nice to see countries like Iceland, Albania, Northern Ireland and Wales getting a chance to play in such a big tournament. 53 countries had a chance to make the tournament and only 24 are in France - so less than half of the UEFA countries make it. Anything beyond 24 would be too much, but 24 seems to be a good number. Every country has been well represented as far as fan support from their country.
It would be one thing if things were watered down, but they're not. I am fine with 24 teams - it means more games to watch.
It will be interesting to see if Portugal as a team and CR as a player can do better against Hungary than in their previous two matches.
In case someone is wondering if I am biased, yes of course I am. I also do not like Spain and Italy.
Now tomorrow Germany will get through to the final 16. If not, I may have to renounce my citizenship and very reluctantly try to become british or, what horror, american.
Obviously there is only one trophy, thanks for that one. They have diluted the tournament, it needs to be smaller again.
Name one reason how and why. There were always weak teams in the tournament - arguably no more than today, even though the field is larger. I, for one, like the fact that there are more matches to watch. But maybe you'd like to go to the 1960 format where four teams participated?
