Interesting thought but Diversity barrier has been broken in Football long time ago. Pele and Eusebio were world's best player in 1960s. France team of 1998 who won the World Cup was pretty diverse.

Okay... congrats to France on their World Cup win!

It's all finally over after a month of tenacious competition... complete with occasional flopping.

Question: does anyone understand why they still play the Third Place consolation game any more? Is it because it's important for the upcoming July 19 FIFA Rankings? Does FIFA now rank France, Croatia, Belgium & England 1,2,3,4 respectively?

If not... I'm not understanding why it remains, unless FIFA prefers to keep it because they've always done it?

I’ve seen people on social media complain that it was “team Africa” or France is an “African team.”

Well, any country was free to accept African immigrants in the past in hopes their 1st/2nd/3rd/etc generational offspring become soccer stars

Good job France, though the penalty was 50/50...funny it was called after VAR and the VAR made it look even less like a penalty than in normal speed/live.

Interestingly the game was lost on the "psychological front" and not because France wass better.
Croatia's biggest issue was a mix between a winning mentality and 'small country' mentality, I mean looking at Manzukic he had a winning mentality...after an own goal he still managed to make it 4:2 and wanted more...but the goalkeeper? Total bs...he was like a typical goalkeeper from small country and not a WC player.
In a way Croatia's football reflects how many Eastern Europe countries feel today and fortunately it's just sports/football where one person can't make the difference but in other areas Eastern Europe will easily surpass france/western europe in the upcoming years and decades.

France was lucky most usual contenders were out of shape this year. It's a team that is hard to like.

Current french team isn't exactly diverse, they're nearly all of African descent

lastnight almost all the neighbors of the house turned on the TV to watch the World Cup Final sounded people screaming "goal gol gol " ... many of which support france and some support croatia. congratulations to france (although players are dominated black people ) for victory in the world cup and thumbs up for croatia which very spirit of playing despite already missed the point they remain the spirit of play. france won because it has so good technique playing while croatia plays with with a good mentality but less in processing the ball
