Hurray, the 2019 MLS season launched this weekend! Most of the pundits are predicting that Atlanta United will repeat, with the final being against either LAFC, Sporting Kansas City, or the Seattle Sounders. Several of the teams in the Western Conference have been heavily made over, so it's anybody's guess who will rise or fall at this point. Vancouver, for example, let 20 players go. Wow.

People counting out Orlando... And with reason. But after last weekend's game, I have no reason NOT to be optimistic. Dwyer and Nani came in with 20 left and completely changed the pace of the game. Them playing a full 90 together is going to be as dangerous as Almiron and Martinez were last season. They looked scary good together. GK might be a bit of an issue, but time will tell.

Yeah, last season was a bit of a clunker for Orlando. The good thing about the MLS though is how quickly teams can rebuild.

At least among the top MLS teams, I've seen definite improvement over the past decade. I used to be able to spot sub-par players, but there's less and less of that; now I usually just see it in some of the reserves. The game has sped up and improved in quality overall, and the best matches can be quite enjoyable. A lot of that has been due to quality imported players, but even among the home grown players the quality is getting better. Hopefully the trend continues until we're competitive with European football.

FC Cincinnati had a capacity crowd of over 32,000 for their inaugural game. Could be among the best atmospheres in MLS. The averaged 25k a game for USL last year, including many games against MLS JV teams no one cares about.

I didn't hear much singing or organized chants though. I guess that's not a thing yet?

Atlanta not looking to good after the first few games. Some vey good games so far. I'll give it another 3-4 games to make any predictions. A lot more to be played so far.

It's tough to repeat in this league. Tough to even make it back to the playoffs when everybody is focused on beating the champs. The good news is that it's not too difficult to bounce back later in the season.

Interesting report:

Monthly Report 44

The MLS is second highest in terms of attendance growth since 2003, and is doing pretty well in average numbers at #8. Atlanta United attendance is #10 in the world; Seattle Sounders are 29th.

Nice! Now, if only we could get a consistent level of talent across the league, things would be great. The games are fun to watch, no doubt, but the level of play can be pretty terrible at times.
