I can't believe Holland got beat by Russia. What a disappointment. I still don't understand how the whole ranking thing works. The Euro cup is just that....a European tournament right ? When does the qualifying for the WORLD cup in 2010 start and is there a seperate tournament for this. Thanks !

Russia in fact performed superb football not only with Holland but with Swedes as well. However this from the last night against Holland was a masterpiece! I enjoyed every minute of it though I must admit when the game started I was more a Dutch fan.

Not only Russians are talented players, but they obviously have possibly the most talented coach on Earth today, Guus Hiddink (he’s Dutch by the way).

EURO 2008 is a tournament of teams that made it there through qualifications. The same will be for the world cup in South Africa, qualifications start in September.

Here you can see qualification groups for Europe

If you're a fan of good football, you couldn't have been disappointed in yesterday's game, nor in the fact that Russia won.

The Russians played much better football, they took the fight to Holland and the Dutch seemed unable to cope with the pace. Van Basten got outclassed by Guus as well -- too much space in the midfield given to the Russians. The Dutch didn't seem to have a dedicated midfield enforcer (like Davids perhaps) to stop the tide.

But what an awesome game that was, and what a great tournament overall it has been.

Default Orange Peeled

Yes it was great game, The Dutch couldnt make an attack using their MF, they were too busy dealing with the Russians attack. Holland was best under the set plays off of free kicks, they missed a few golden oppertunities.

How bout those missiles that Kolodin was launching at 30+ meters in the first half . I guarantee he will make one of those in this tourney (if he hasnt already, I''ve missed most of russia's games).

Now will Spain become the 4th and final group winner to go home in the quarters? The teams that have mis stepped in group play are fairing alot better in the quarters.

Good win for Spain but HORRIBLE officiating, that referee completely broke the flow of the game, he should have just let them play.......

Russia was in top form against Netherlands. Spain versus Italy was a tad disappointing.

If Russia performs at the same level, they'll have no problem with Spain.
Exciting game: 3-1 Russia
Boring game: 1-0 Russia

Turkey with half of their starters out from cards will likely get crushed by Germany, who's only missing two or three players from cards opposed to Turkey's seven-ish.
Exciting game: 30-0 Germany
Realistic game: 3-0 Germany

Italy vs. Spain had to be one of the worst matches I've ever seen in my life. It was boring, un-imaginative, un-impressive, way too negative.

Even though Spain beat Russia in the group play, I'm pulling for Russia. Russia - Germany final. That'd be fun.
