You do realize that their is pending applications for expansion for the 2011 season.

The ownership groups have applications for the following cities:

Miami - owners at Barcelona FC of Spain
Ottawa
Portland
St. Louis
Vancouver
Montreal

Atlanta had a bid but has backed out and will likely reapply at the next round of expansion.

Out of those Portland and St. Louis seem to be the frontrunners. Miami has a lot of money behind their bid and could steal a spot which will **** a lot of people off.

South Florida has a history of not supporting professional sports teams and has already had a failed MLS franchise. The only reason they even have a shot at a team is because they have a billion dollar organization as the ownership group.

It could work. You also have Mpls and St. Paul in there too.

Milwaukee was explored. No facility available, nor is there place for a new one. That's what I heard, anyway.

An expansion team isnt awarded to a city, it is awarded to an ownership group. So, you can talk about what cities should get teams all you want but unless their is a qualified ownership group placing a bid to put a team in that city, then it will never happen. It is not like MLS pulls out a map and says we will put a team here, here, and here. The city the ownership group wants to put the team is only part of the equation. They need to have th capital, resources, and business plan in place to do it.

Last I heard St. Louis is the front runner but I think Portland, Vancouver or Montreal should be given more consideration.

St. Louis had an NASL team for 1 year in 1967 or 68 and has never supported a USL D-1 franchise or it's equivalent. Meanwhile, Portland, Vancouver and Montreal have had a history of strong NASL teams and USL D-1 teams.

Portland has the record for the largest crowd in attendance for a USL regular season game at around 15,000. Vancouver already has a soccer specific stadium and the Montreal Impact are one of the most stable teams out there
