This will get interesting... North Korea, land of the sheltered, run by a psycho family, mainly intent on developing (and selling) nuclear "resources" has all but clinched a place in the 2010 World Cup.

Will FIFA allow it to happen? Will nations or tourists boycott their matches? Will there be protests (surely)? What if they do well, how will they handle the extra attention? (normally tourism jumps dramatically in countries that surprise at World Cups) Will Kim Nam Il travel outside of his comfort zone (his bedroom) to attend? Will they execute the first ever atomic free kick?

thoughts?

I not only think FIFA would allow North Korea into the World Cup, it wouldn't surprise me if it put them in the same pool with the U.S.

It's too bad none of their citizens will get to go watch any of their games apart from some high-ranking officials. They'll prob have it playing in large public places in their country though and somehow edit the outcome of the game digitally when they lose.

Looking forward to the Saudi Arabia- North Korea matchup next week. Winner of that automatically advances. I don't see North Korea winning that match....but they can still get in if they beat the pool A 3rd place team (which they should) and New Zealand.

I take that back, if we played like we did against Italy today (lost 4-3), we could beat em.

I watched the NK-Iran game the other day and they just didn't look that great to me. They may make it, but I don't think they'll do very well.
