I was watching.

Two of the commentators werent even American and they were in agreement that it was a great draw once Algeria and Slovenia were picked, particularly when you consider the teams that were still left.

They are considerably underestimating a very strong Algerian side because of a confederation cup...and I am just saying I want the camera on Lalas face when Algeria smashes sams army.

The commentators who werent american are speaking to an american audience, so of course they wouldnt just down them.

Really? I guess you didnt hear the Brit talk very much, he came off as quite the jerk.

I think you are just looking for a reason to be mad, thats cool, do your thing. But when that draw card showed Algeria I was very happy especially when you consider the other teams that were still in the draw.

True. He dissed the USA the entire time he was on the air. I was glad he was there though, because that's exactly the way a lot of them think.

Like someone else pointed out, the arrogance of Americans is amusing. Easy group? I don't think so. Everyone is dismissing Slovenia, despite the fact that they knocked RUSSIA out, which is no small feat. As for the US thinking it'll upset England, unless the England team are suffering from the jitters, forget it. Capello's England team is a new England team -- a far more frightening one, that isn't just about long balls and fighting spirit. This is a very technically sound, well rounded England team that is one of the four favorites to win the WC and for good reason. Let's also not forget Algeria, who will be no pushover.

Again, nobody is dismissing anybody. Everybody was just extremely relieved that we ended up with a group like we did, as opposed to being in the Group of Death. No arrogance in preferring to be grouped with algeria and slovenia as opposed to Ivory Coast, Portugal, and Brazil.

I think it is a good draw for both England and the USA and to all the people on this forum saying that the USA will have a tough time of it, I certainly agree with you- Slovenia are a good physical side who managed to tactically out maneuver Russia, and Algeria will cope better with the heat. But that doesn't mean that they are not the most likely to finish runners-up to England (providing we actually show up).

When we drew the USA there was a collective sigh of anguish at my house, because in honesty they were one of the best teams in their pot, but this was redeemed by the other two. Alright, there are no walk-overs, and anything can happen, but when you think about all the teams we didn't get in our group- France, Portugal, Ivory Coast, Australia, Denmark, Serbia - then really we should be grateful for the draw.

People here will once again over hype and over rate England to the point of obsurdity. They will under-perform and be suprised by the competition put up by the other three teams in their opening group.

The US team is very good considering that football doesn't even feature on the radar of popular American sports - it is a kids game for the most part, and the MLS is a niche league. The last time I checked though they beat Spain during their last meeting, and were beating Brazil at half time - something England fell short of.

Having said that, England will be favourite to top the group, but its not unreasonable to think the US could edge it either.

I hope England will play a more exciting game than their Sven-Göran Eriksson years. Haven't been interested in them since 1990 (after that super-classic match with Cameroon).

The groups draws are interesting. But I predict it won't be an European team taking home the trophy. No European team has when World Cup was held outside of Europe. Most likely a South American team, with an European team as runner-up at most. I dare say the host has an almost equal shot as the traditional powers to win. I also predict at least three African teams - including host - going into second round.

None of it is for certain, of course. The ball is round.
