BMB, no, winning a champion's league wouldn't be something most clubs would care overly about - in American sports, winning the American title is really all we need.

You keep trying to shoehorn your ideas about what a soccer league should be, but you have to realize that this is a different culture with a different sporting landscape. Just because something works well where you come from doesn't mean it would work well here. It is as simple as that. I don't start threads asking why the EPL doesn't move to a capped franchise system, so that every team would have a chance to win, because I know that the sporting culture in England is different.

So please, understand that just because you enjoy the way your league is set up (and I'm glad you do!), it doesn't mean that this system is necessarily good or right for the United States.

Oh, and also, relegation would not work in the American sporting landscape. Not with a truly national league. If MLS implemented relegation, the league would die very, very quickly.

ok,i get your point, but i got to say you don't start that thread because BPL is the best league in the world and we point what's bad,not what's good, maybe you're right, things this way would't work there

Yes, there is a champions league here, but for the average American sports fan, it doesn't matter. It is seen as secondary. What matters is your team winning the league, being the best in America. I don't speak for any soccer fans other than myself, but if MLS is to truly become mainstream, then it will emulate what works here in America. And that is that the MLS champ will be the big thing to win, not the Champions League Tourney.

I think part of the problem is you're refusal to understand that things work differently in different places. It is like an Englishman becoming utterly baffled by the idea of Americans driving on the opposite side of the road. It is certainly different, but it's not any more right or wrong for the country it is used in. You might not like the idea of driving on the "wrong" side of the road, but ultimately it is just a different way to drive.

(And I disagree that the EPL has the best league setup world, simply because only 3 to 5 clubs actually ever have a chance at winning. That, for me, is the most boring way to set up a league. But hey, I'm just one guy, and seeing that the EPL is quite popular for the Brits, well, more power to them.)

Yeah, even before this, I was excited for the league bringing in quality names well before their expiration dates. Also good to see it's not all being horded by NY and LA. I think having more competitive clubs will really set MLS apart from the European oligopolies.

second-there are 5 clubs who play for first place in the PL,and there are clubs like tottenham, newcastle, everton, aston villa that sometimes get in the way...plus outside these 5 clubs the rest of the teams are very balanced

italy?ahahahhaha, that was the funniest thing i heard all weak, their clubs are so weak that in champions league they can't compete, inter win because of mourinho, for years they didn't pass through the 8's final, not to say that inter has been winning the league for years without any opposition, english clubs has been dominating the champions for years, they get more revenue, more watched in tv,better league in general, italian clubs outside the big 4 are weak, spain same thing

You may know what works better in other places, but you really don't know what works best here in the states.

Where are you from, by the way? The only reason I chose EPL for my examples was because it is the European league I'm most knowledgeable of (although admittedly, my knowledge is still pretty limited.)
