I think the latino influence is overrated too, many of them playing baseball and football.
But I think soccer is become more important in the US.

Hey man, that's pretty cool even though I am pretty sure you're in the strict minority.

Still looking at international news and even the promotional tie ins and advertisments on teh domestic spanish networks, the interest is still nothing compared to other countries.

Still ratings do grow slowly each world cup so it's making progress.

I grew up watching and playing mostly baseball and basketball. Soccer was something played elsewhere in the world.

But as someone here mentioned, I was one of those parents who enrolled their children into AYSO, at the request of my children. I watched my kids play for nine years. It was thru this experience that I became interested in the sport at a broader level.

Now a days I often follow F.C. Barcelona, my favourite team. I actually got to watch them play a friendly game live against the L.A. Galaxy at the Pasadena Rose Bowl last year.

Regarding the sport's growth here in the USA, it's fair to say that it's slowly getting its share of acceptance and recognition at various levels. For example, my girlfriend's daughter just completed her bachelor's degree at a private college where she received a partial ride given that she played soccer for the school's team.

One note about the MLS, the Seattle Sounders team is doing incredibly well with a rabid fan base here in the Seattle area, drawing sellout or near sellout crowds to all games, in the 35,000-40,000 range. It's cool to see the people here embrace this new team so well!

If all the MLS expansion teams can follow in that path, the league will explode. With Kansas City ready to open up a world class stadium and San Jose on their way to theirs, attendance will blow right past what the NBA and NHL draw.

Now, if we could fix whatever is wrong in Dallas. Unfortunately, I dont think that will happen until HSG sells the team, if they ever do.

If we get rid of snacks after every soccer practice/game, I will consider soccer doing well in the U.S.
