"Playing the race card" is an interesting phrase. It's come to mean forgetting that SC still does everything in its power to discriminate against her black citizens; this was shown by the 2005 (or perhaps 4) renewal of the Voting Rights Act which found that the General Assembly had tried no less that 500 times in the 1994-2002 period to discriminate against black citizens.
Please note this was a report prepared by a Democrat and Republican co-chaired committe.
Also note that SC was not alone trying this scam- all the states of the former Confederacy- plus Arizona (gosh!) were also found to be doing the same thing.
Which is why the act was renewed.
And since the education stats match the generalizations I'm using here, I'm quite certain of their validity.
As far as the 'Lowcountry snob' thing, I plead guilty- I have a prejudice against the Upcountry, as do most long-time residents of each region about each other.
But that doesn't mean that I think the Loxcountry is less racist, or has better schools. It just means each side uses different tactics for the same end-goal.
Wade Hampton vs 'Pitchfork' Ben Tillman- if you see my meaning.
Besides, in one of the books (Wright? Conroy?) about SC, the author summed it up quite clearly, from my point of view:
The Upcountry thinks the Lowcountry is inhabited by aristocratic jackasses, while the Lowcountry believes that the Upcountry is largely populated by the worst sort of redneck, and the tragedy is that both sides are right.."
Perhaps not 100% accurate as to the author's words, but 100% clear as to his meaning.

Do you honestly view it this way?
Historically, I'd say it's accurate, but some regions and their populations have moved into the 21st century. Maybe it's the number of immigrants from Europe, and international firms who maintains presences and HQ's in the Upstate, but I've never met anyone who harbored such feelings. Then again, maybe it's an effort of 'historic preservation' on the Lowcountry's part...? Or, actually, it appears to be another over generalization that you've accepted without firsthand knowledge?
This has gotten way off topic. So, how about that Alvin Greene guy?

Ah, but that's the crux: I do have first-hand knowledge.
So I know that not everything associated with either region of the Palmetto State is bad. Weather's nice- if you're into humid subtropical. Some good state parks. The foothills at peach blossom time are very pretty.
And, yes things are changing- in both regions. But very slowly- as the Greene's 'election' shows.
Back on this thread is the info showing that voter fraud via touchscreen voting machines, which have no paper trail and are so easily manipulated- especially those with iVotronic software, as SC's has, and that's recently been found substandard for elections in two more states, Ohio and Colorado, is again the culprit.

Yet we nominated a black conservative over the son of the very definition of a "good Ole boy" and also will very most likely have a female Indian American governor come this fall. Sadly, the irony is lost on you.

I'm not sure that's irony as much as it is SC politics as usual. Tim Scott did an outstanding job portraying himself as the most radical right-wing candidate available, thereby helping to ensure his victory. Thurmond tried to portray himself as a reasonable person, in the mold of Lindsay Graham (huge unwarranted leap of self-aggrandizement), a sure kiss of death. Nikki was able to resurrect her campaign by wrangling the endorsement of a nut-case Alaskan who chose Faux News over fulfilling her own responsibilities, thereby firing up the kettles under all of SC's teabaggers.
Regardless, I give both of them full credit for recognizing that fluff is far more important than substance when it comes to getting elected around here. Considering how low the bar was set by the previous incumbents, I sincerely hope both will be an improvement over the muck we've been forced to endure.

I'm reminded of what a cousin told me when Clarence Thomas was nominated for the US Supreme Court:
'We finally found a n***** that thinks like we do."
People you mentioned will drive SC even further back into the stone age.
And do the other racists bidding by discriminating against minorities.

So.......white racists nominated, voted for and will most likely elect a black man and Indian American woman to advance their "white supremacy?'' I'm hoping that by reading it, you will see how utterly stupid your theory is.
Face it, we are electing conservative minorities and you Neo Progs have no idea what to do about it because it doesn't fit into you narrative.

Not a theory, a proven fact.
You do know that there were black overseers on the plantations?
And research the term 'Kapo' from the concentration camps.
And what about the Voting Righs Reauthorization Act, and what the record showed?

I trust you do not know history, especially southern history.
It's become a bad thing (ie, tourists will stop coming) if you go around yelling white supremacy slogans and fly Reb rags on your state house.
So, you have to call it "State Rights", put that damn flag somewhere less obvious, and get Uncle Tom to do your bidding.
You do understand why the Voting Rights Extension passed, don't you?
