Looking at Seneca area from NJ Shore
We are planning to retire in the near future and have been researching all over the Southeast. We have friends who have a winter home in Westminster and they love it there. I would like to be a little closer to shopping and cable so I've been checking out the Seneca and Clemson areas. We were looking at Fort Mill, but there are a lot of retirement communities being built there now, and we want to get away from that atmosphere since that is one of the reasons we want to leave this area of NJ.....aside from the taxes and the traffic. Can anyone give me some specifics on those areas? We will be travelling to an RV park in Seneca in the next few weeks so we can look around, but I'd like to know some areas that would be good to look into. Since there are many lakes and streams around, is that a flood plain area? Silly question maybe, but I don't know the terrain yet. It seems many houses are on hills and I know its close to the mountains. What about Tornadoes or Hurricane winds? Any help would be very much appreciated.

The Keowee Lake area sounds like it would be perfect for you. It's about 10 min from Seneca.
Here's a link:

Caprilla:
Search this forum for Seneca and Westminister. I visited the area myself in July and posted comments that may be of interest...just my opinions however

Thanks so much for your replys. I missed the link WGOGFAN, but I'll look for the info anyway. Sure appreciate your information KMT. That gives me a better idea of what areas to look at. We're packing up now and we'll be leaving for our 2 1/2 week trip to SC as soon as I get off work tomorrow. Can't wait to get there and start meeting people and getting a look at the area. I'll let you all know my thoughts on it.

My parents retired there about 5 years ago from Michigan. They live on Lake Keowee and could not be happier with their decision. They left everything then knew from living in Michigan their whole lives and took the leap. There are many new comers groups down there to get involved which is a great way to meet people of the area. Clemson College in Seneca is beautiful, they have a great sports program there and a nice theater to catch some of the shows that come through town. Also being close to the Mountains you are shielded from any of the big storms that threaten to roll through. I've been there many times and think it is an ideal area for retirement. Low taxes, energy, very little traffic to deal with. Our last trip there my wife and I drove back and forth to Charlotte 4-5 times and it was a pretty easy treck of open highway driving. Good luck in your decision.
