Tell me more....
Could you tell me more about your county? Particularly the area high in the hills, like Tamasse. My husband and I would like to buy a small cottage, or a couple of acres and build our retirement home. Now living in Beaufort, SC.

I currently live in Walhalla (hence my username WGOG = Walhalla Garden Of the Gods - named by the Germans that founded the town) which is at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It's about an hour away from Greenville, 30 minutes away from Highlands, NC and we are surrounded by 3 lakes (Keowee, Hartwell & Jocassee). If you love nature trails or waterfalls, you will love it. I have the pleasure of living in the country, but the conveince of shopping within 10 min. (and I have digital cable...lol). It is a very nice place with plenty to do and lots of beautiful waterfalls to visit and enjoy. The weather here is usually pleasant the summers are hot and humid, but the winters are very tolerable. Last year we had one ice storm and about 1 inch of snow at our house, then drove to Highlands, NC (30 min away) and took our kids to play in the snow - they had about 4 inches on the ground!
Seneca, Walhalla & West Union are good places in Oconee. As far as having a cabin, the lakes here have beautiful cabins on the water.

Thanks, WGOGFAN. We've been looking into to those areas, Walhalla was one of my picks. Thanks for the detailed information.

Well for us, once I sell my property here in CA I will have made a substancial amout of $$. So...seeing we will be building our home, and the area will be new to us, we will not need to work for the first couple of years. During that time we plan to travel all of SC, attempt to start a ministry/Church and or a business, and get involved helping in the communities.
