We're looking at the Greenville area, esp. west of G'ville, in the foothills. The Table Rock area is very pretty; about 30 miles due west of G'ville. There are a lot of streams in the hilly areas. There are 3 nice lakes to the south, around Seneca, Clemson, etc. There are some nice towns around the lakes. I can't help you on the humidity part, though- it's humid in the summer- all of the southeast US is. G'ville is a nice city- the downtown has been extensively re-vitalized, and I found it very accessible for a city. There is a beautiful park along a set of waterfalls right in town. Coming from CA, I think you'll be shocked at real estate prices. It's very reasonable. Most of the development seems to be happening east and south of G'ville; over towards the mountains seems a lot quieter and more rural (that's why we're going there), so if you want a few acres with a goat wandering around the front yard, head to the mountains, such as Pickens and Traveler's Rest; if you want suburban subdivisions with every store at your fingertips, look at Simpsonville, and that general area. Do some searches for real estate in the Greenville area- there are several very user-friendly sites that will get you into the MLS listings.
