York is almost 200 miles inland so any effect from hurricanes would be rare (other than rain). Hugo (1989) is the only hurricane in generations to have caused any damage that far inland. Tornadoes are no more frequent here than in most parts of the country and are much less frequent or severe than in the midwest and great plains.

Exclamation SC Hurricanes

As a life long resident of 60+ years in Charleston, I have only experienced two real hurricanes (ones that did big damage) Gracie in '59 and Hugo in '89. You move here you take your chances, that's all I can say.

I was just looking at this today. If the link doesnt work it shows that between 1855 and 2006 a total of 31 Hurricanes hit SC
WPDE Weather Forecast (broken link)
I doubt if the area you are going to ever got hit.

Weather.com probably has historical information on the path of hurricanes. Just an FYI typing all in caps is like screaming at someone while on the net and you may be more responses if you you type normally.

york is in the upstate, you'll be fine. hugo was the last real hurricane we had, and even though it was a doozie, the upstate still wasn't hammered.

I can't speak for York County but Greenville County rarely has tornadoes. There is statistical data on this on the net.
