I want to move to a coastal city that is GREEN building industry friendly and I can enjoy the recreational amenities at the same time plus be near SEC football schools so we can go watch the best conference for sports within easy driving distance. My two new companies deal with 1. GREEN building brokerage and we hope to make this an international brokerage firm and 2. all encompassing services involving green building including development management, retrofit, rehab, remodel, and redevelopment of existing buildings to make them GREEN and LEED certified, energy audits, provide architecture, engineering, and construction management services to the green building industry, and we will also develop for ourselves GREEN business, research, techology, and manufacturing parks. We also plan to have an E-Commerce site to purchase green building products. A good port for import/export would be nice. Essentially we will be a one stop shop for all things involving GREEN building.

We want to live on the coast where we will be able to attact top notch employees. We ,furthermore, are a Christian faith based organization that will be using these businesses to fund Christian initiatives involving housing, hunger, healing, and education.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Charleston sounds good for you. Also, Columbia would be a great place also for you!

I second Charleston. Good port, only 1.5 hours to Columbia, good pool of applicants, and plus I am seeing more and more architects concentrating on Green building plans while still maintaining the character and charm so prevalent in Charleston architecture.

To be honest most Charleston architects seem to greenwash more than actually design green. Then again most clients are not willing to put the $ or effort in really doing a green home. You might want to look into Verdi Green in Ladson (other side of north charleston) or at a couple of the infill communities that are trying to go green.

I would think Asheville might be a good pick. Or go against type and pick Greenville for the manufactuign/engineering/$ and see if you can get into a market at the start. Greenville is also close to Clemson that could give you access to science/engineering professors interested in studyigg materials & methods.

Mr. Peatie: Your comment about Clemson has enlightened me. A tie-in to the departments that are involved with architecture, engineering, construction, and real estate development would be a great way to connect the research element and the education to the business, research, technology, and manufacturing mixed -use park I want to build. We want to attract green building product manufacturers' and their production employees, sales people, and business executives to this intended park and if we tie in the research element that may be provided by the university, this may be a great formula for success. I may have to consider living in Greenville and just go to the coast on the weekends or vice-versa. Thanks for the comments so far from everyone. Good food for thought.
