Hi,
My husband and I are thinking about moving to South Carolina. We've lived in Florida before and are currently in Connecticut which we hate with a passion!( didn't mean to bash). The people are cold, there are no lively activities and the 20 something are nowhere to be found. We are not club/ late partiers but since we are in our 20's (25-28) we do enjoy the company of people our age to double date.
So how are the people in South Carolina? How is the job market? My husband is in the telecommunication field and me teaching. What about the towns? I've made a little research and think Irmo or West Columbia would fit us better, but my husband wants a place not too far a way from the beach. Are there any nice suburban areas not far away from the beach? Besides Columbia are there any other big cities? Sorry for drilling you guys with question...but we want to get out of CT...Fast!

I assume you were looking for a definition and not insinuating anything, because that wouldn't be very accepting or tolerant of you.

Unless your from one of the British Isles just skip the word. Greenville is the city with the best private sector. Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Beufort anchor the main coastal areas.

Do you want to be a quick 2 hour drive away from the beach (nice Friday/Sunday commute- Columbia) or be within an hour so you could head there and back any given day.

Secure a job before you move. SC is still being hit pretty heavily by the recession.

lol .....I guess we can give you a pass.. However the word "Clan" no matter how its spelled, in the same sentance as South Carolina (and many other southern states) tends to raise the wrong impression from a historical perspective.. though certainly Im sure that they are still around in most of the lower 48

If you really want to move down here start applying for jobs in all 3 major metro areas (Greenville, Columbia and Charleston) and points in between. If you can't support your lifestyle down here you are going to be unhappy no matter your location. When you start looking for those jobs you will see the obstacle that stands in your way. You will likely cut your current salary in half when you move to this state; can you live on that?

49 other states...well, 48 minus the one you're in..that would be a better suggestion than SC.
