I think it is true that it depends on each individual person.
We vacationed in Florida and yes, some southerners treated us like we could go fly even in one of the tourest capitals of the U.S.
We have driven through neighborhoods in my own hometown where the people are of one particular race and yes, some treated us like we better drive faster.
I have been to other states in the north, mostly NJ, where I'm cut off in traffic, flipped the finger, ID'd in stores and then promptly given a sideways mouth with a not-so-happy reply of "you're from PA".
I am a caucasion, northern female and have moved into a neighborhood that is primarily latin-american, and for the most part I'm treated very poorly. I'm laughed at, made fun of, talked down to, and have had my car window broken where they stole everything inside including a pair of expensive subwoofers.
I agree that prejudiced is everywhere and unfortunately a lot of the prejudiced I've dealt with is african-american against white (another reflection of the Civil War) where blacks still blame whites whether we are northern whites or southern whites. I had to drop out of high school due to race riots. I am not a fighter.
But now I'm experiencing the same treatment from latin-americans, what did we do to p*ss them off?
When Spain came along to take over Puerto Rico, America faught for them, but they do not wish to be owned. So why are they all here? Wouldn't prejudice say: Take your pride back to your little island and while you're at it leave our welfare here.
But when southerners treat northerners or when blacks treat whites with any particular prejudiced we automatically take it back to the Civil War.
Why do we need prejudice? Race against Race, State against State, North against South. East Coast against West Coast. Rich against Poor. Shall I go on?
I understand that some people just want to be surrounded by like-minded people who understand the traditions of a place or race. The world has been trying to desegregate for decades now, and some still fight to be with only those who agree to having things a certain way. A quiet town does not welcome city people who will be blaring music at 3am or racing cars through the streets too fast. A jewish person does not want to celebrate Christmas. A rich man will never carry a conversation with a homeless man.
When it comes down to it there is a hiney-hole everywhere, in every race, in every region of the world, in everyday life and they have this disposition for some reason or another that's good enough for them whether it's war related or not and beware of them in large numbers.
Unfortunately, even if we come in peace we are not given a chance to be 'People' to one another and we usually end up leaving angry with lots of reasons to continue the Hating. The majority always rules no matter the situation.
Please NOTE we are the only lifeform that holds prejudice. There is no hatred between a giraff and a zebra, they don't cast opinions on each others food preference or the colors of their fur, when will
people just live together?
