I didn't say pleasant, I said more pleasant. Meaning, comparatively speaking, 100-105 degree heat in Phoenix feels more pleasant than 90-95 degree heat in Summerville. I realize that Arizona is hot.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'a few hours a day'. In the summer, things will heat up around 10:00am and won't cool off until the sun goes down at 8pm. And technically, relative humidity is higher at night, because cooler air can't hold as much moisture.

Additionally, things do not cool off faster in South Carolina. Dry climates are known for high daytime temperatures and low nighttime temperatures in comparison to subtropical climates.

I used to work for Bosch when they had a plant in Kentwood, MI. Great company though! (I left the company on my own and pursued other opportunities.)

About SC, some of my co-workers transferred to the Charleston SC plant several years ago. Coming from Michigan, they love the weather down there and being so close to the ocean. It does get humid down there.

The 2 biggest complaints I have heard from them: lousy schools in SC and laid back drivers (not in a hurry to go anywhere!).

It's a known fact that SC has one of the worse schools in the US. You will need to be more involved in your kids' education.

Good luck!

Two things I will comment on this post:

I will agree that SC (as a whole) does not have the best reputation when it comes to schooling...I will go on to say....that there are some school districts within SC that are some of the best in the nation. Is there room for improvement...you bet...and no matter what state you live in....We Should Be More Involved in Our Child's Education....

ed.sc.gov/news/more.cfm?articleID=694

Lastly "laid back drivers" (not in a hurry to go anywhere).....I myself having come from CA....I find this rather refreshing (why do we have to be in such a hurry anyway?...when our final day has come...is it really going to matter if we were 5 minutes late to...anything?)

My sentiments exactly. Half the problem with the bad rap the schools get is a generational problem. Families that have long histories of dropping out. Blaming the school system, when the real blame is their lack of discipline and parenting skills. Kids that get little to no home support usually fail. Sadly, this seems to be more common than not in SC. This has a reflection not only on the schools, but society as well.

I don't consider a laid back driver as a bad thing at all. Give me laid back anyday over a lead foot lunatic.

Default also moving to Summerville

I currently live in West Ashley which is close to Summerville. I went to college in Charleston, moved away, and moved back. I've been here for about 6 years. We are also moving to Summerville because the schools are much better than in Charleston county, also the houses are more affordable. We have two daughter, 4 and 1. We've been looking in White Gables which is a great neighborhood. The houses are gorgeous but the yards are small. But their are a lot of common areas. My husband has a friend who lives there now and he loves it. They have a full-time social director and have parties and family get togethers all the time. Also the Medical University of South Carolina in 20 to 30 minutes away and is a teaching institution with great healthcare. I'm a nurse and have worked there ever since we moved here. The traffic in Summerville is hectic, but it's hectic all over the Charleston area. If you have a family, Summerville is a little more family-friendly than some of the other areas. If schools are important to you the only areas I would suggest are Mount Pleasant, which is much more expensive, and Summerville. I hope this helps. Good luck with the move!
