It seems clear, for New Yorker there is no place like NY,NY. I think it is cool to be so fond of a place, you think it is THE PLACE to live. I have lived all over the U.S., and some areas have been better than others, but I have yet to live in a place that I love so much like New Yorker. And for Laurasnuthouse, I hope you can find the same kind of fondness in S.C.

I recall earlier threads about 'southern attitudes toward yankees'. I think the latter part of this thread has been a prime example of why southerners are wary of northerners coming down here. For every transplant who espouses the southern way of life, there are 2 or 3 who think and act like New_Yorker.

The issue with yankees is they do not want to blend in, they want to change everything. I have family in Philthydelphia and I can smell the city from the 25 mile out circles (map targets) and they think every thing revolves around the big northern city. I loved Jacksonville, Fl. but now am retired and want to play on a mini farm. Looking at acreage this weekend in Landrum and Gray Court.

Spanish People whom are ILLEGAL telling ME a Medical Professional that they think it should be against the law that people don't speak spanish...umm hello last time i checked this is a ENGLISH speaking country....

There is a HUGE spanish and Haitian population here and everything seems to be catered to them...

I don't care where you are from what languuage you speak , but please don't tell me that it should be illegal to not speak a language!

New York is dirty, crowded, trashed, full of rude people who are only concerned with themselves, high rent, laundry lines every where, NYPD harassing everyone, smog, filth, need I say more? Why would you pay TWICE as much to live in a city that is TEN times as filthy? Hello? Does this make sense to anyone? I am sure that NY has it's good points, and I am not intentionally insulting anyone, however, NY has nothing for jobs, nothing for healthcare, nothing for families, and if NY is so wonderful, how come 90% of the readers here are from NY and have MOVED!!

I think you didn't get to the right part of NJ. There is PLENTY of open spaces, farm land, horses, cows and ESPECIALLY JOBS that pay extremely well. In SC you can't find a job paying more than $8.00/hr. Now I know why you all complain about "taxes." You don't have a clue about REAL taxes. NJ offers respectable work for the equipped worker. I think it all begins with a suitable education. You get what you pay for.....and in SC you don't appear to be paying much attention to your future or a quality education. By the way, what's your interpretation of "rude?" Is it anyone that disagrees with you? We're quite happy down here. The locals love us because we brought down our Yankee dollars to spend here. Enjoy all this, because with the amount of new construction (including those GIGANTIC SCHOOLS) you will get a taste of real taxes in the very near future.

WOW! If you read the next message, you can get a little taste of the real NY/NJ flavor. If you think NY is "dirty" you should have seen it in the 90's. Paying more simply means you EARN more and enjoy more benefits from your financial success. (There is no "smog" in NY/NJ) You obviously don't know anything about healthcare and family assistance that is plentiful and available to those in need. Not a handout, but sincere, professional help and assistance. There is no free lunch, not even in NY/NJ. WAIT, I take that back, there are plenty of FREE soup kitchens in Essex, Morris, Warren, Sussex, Ocean & Atlantic Counties, just to name a few. And they are manned by compassionate and caring VOLUNTEERS.

1. In SC you don't go to the corner and make a left...you go to the corner and TAKE a left
2. You will be here 2 days and find yourself talking with a little twang in your voice ..but refuse to admit it
3. If you go to the local pizzaria to get a chicken parm hero...you will not get breaded cutlets with mozzerella on a hero... you will get... plain chicken cutlets with onions, peppers, and mozzerella on a hoggie
4. They have WHITE cows here in SC
5. Garbage pick up is ONCE a week
6. LOTS of worship channels on tv
7. There are SLUGS everywhere
8. Lots of areas do not have the package with cable, internet and tv yet
9. Bi-Lo food stores does not have a selection ANYWHERE near NY/NJ standards.lol.... I did find sausage at Publix though ..THANKS! The canned tomatos...2 choices....Ricotta...2 choices..Bread crumbs.. 1 choice and all are very small containers.lol.
10.Do not go under 1/4 tank of gas when you get here... you NEVER know when you will be on some winding road and your gas light will be on and every gas station you pass will be closed for the night
Those are some of my thoughts for anyone who is moving to this area.. it doesn't apply to everyone...some people might be used to this but coming from NY we are not.

You forgot that you can't buy Taylor's Pork Roll anywhere but Public's.

I’m amused by all the generalities tossed about in regard the different parts of the country; “New Yorkers are like this, New Jersey folks are like that and South Carolina folks act this...”
Reminds me of a joke/story I once heard. A new fellow to the area went up to a local and asked what the folks were like around there. The local asked the other man what were they like where he came from. The reply, “Nasty, cold, stand-offish and not worth a minute of my time.”
The local replied, “Just like they are here,” and the other guy went off, convinced he had the place all figured out now.
Sometime later a second man, also new to the area, came up to the local with the same question.
Once more he was asked, “What were they like back where you came from?”
“Nice folks. Friendly, considerate, cared for their neighbors. A good place to live.”
“Just like it is here,” replied the local.
********
I’ve been around the USA a bit and found the vast majority of people to be friendly, easy going and willing to assist with information when asked. Maybe I cheat a bit, as I start off conversations with a smile and a “howdy!”
