Default Amber Alert

An Amber Alert is still in effect for a woman and child who have been missing since Monday afternoon.

Beatriz Duarte, 20, and her son Aiden, 1, were last seen at a Kmart in Greenwood, S.C.

Police say Duarte’s ex-boyfriend, 16-year-old Oscar Valencia, forced them into a black pickup truck and may now be heading to California.

They said Aiden is Valencia's son. Authorities have not said whether the relationship between Duarte and Valencia was legal.

South Carolina law states the legal age of sexual consent is 16, but a person as young as 14 can consent to sex with someone 18 years old or younger.

Police say Valencia has threatened to kill Duarte in the past so they are very concerned for the mother's safety. If you have any information, please call the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office at (864) 943-8051 or call 911.

Please take a look at this link so you can be familiar with what the victims and suspect look like.

update

The sheriff of Roane County, Tenn., says a mother and baby named in an Amber Alert issued Monday afternoon were never kidnapped.

Beatriz Duarte, 20, and her son Aiden, 1, left a K-Mart in Greenwood, S.C., with the woman’s estranged boyfriend, 16-year-old Oscar Valencia. The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department asked for the Amber Alert because they believed Duarte and the couple’s son had been forcibly taken, and they said Valencia had threatened to kill Duarte in the past.

But late Tuesday afternoon Duarte walked into the Roane County Sheriff’s Department and said they had heard on the news that police were looking for them. She told authorities she had asked Valencia to pick her and the baby up from the store and said she had gone with him willingly.

Duarte signed a statement saying she was willingly traveling with Valencia and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Greenwood County authorities told the Roane County sheriff to allow the three to go on their way.

Authorities have not said why they believed the mother and child were kidnapped
