Thanks for all the great opinions...I really can't wait to see these areas since its so hard to tell from just pictures and brochures. I definitely want to feel safe as that is one of the reasons I am wanting to move. Everything I read sounds great, from the parades, to the stores, to the friendliness. Its so great to here positive things about places instead of negativity!

As for Holly Springs..that is one of the areas we had originally liked. Its in Wake county though and there was alot of negative talk about the schools there.

With the BMW plant that came a couple of years ago the area is growing rapidly. Several lakes in the area for recreation and some of the best schools in the state. Holly Springs Motlow Creek elementary is one of the better schools I have ever seen. You have Music On Main in Greenville every week and of course Friday nights is high school football where you can watch the #2 nationally ranked Byrnes Rebels play. Fall saturdays are reserved for Clemson Tiger football which is about an hour away. This is truly a great place to live and raise a family.

Ok I was and still am confused. When you refer to the Holly Springs Area...you are talking about SC not NC right? I had looked into Holly Springs NC and liked it but the schools weren't the best from what people were saying. Holly Springs is not actually a town in SC? I checked out the schools and they look good, does Greer Lyman and Duncan all go to that school district?

Sorry for all the questions!

Default Wanted to say Thanks and give an update

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and opinions!

We just returned from our long weekend. The weather wasn't the greatest but we didn't let it ruin our trip. We drove to Simpsonville on Friday and went to Greenville that night. We loved downtown Greenville and found the people to be very friendly!

Saturday we drove around Simpsonville, but think we missed alot. We drove around Neely Farms which is very pretty and a few other developments. I have to admit we should have had a better plans because we were just driving around with no destination so it made it hard to see everything. I was wondering (since we didn't drive down it) is Woodruff rd in Woodruff or Simpsonville? I assumed it was in Woodruff and didn't get off that exit but know I am thinking we missed alot of developments.

Sunday we drove up to Huntersville NC, went to Birkdale Village, ate at Red Rocks (yum) drove through Harrisburg, and Matthews and then onto Tega Cay and Fort Mill. We really liked Matthews, Tega Cay and Fort mill. They all had nice feels to them. Stopped into a Ryan homes development just to see the model home (which I really liked!)

Monday we drove back to FL and I must say I was happy to get back to the warm weather, although we missed a tornado that went through our downtown area, so I was glad we weren't here for that.

So now we are trying to decide what to do next. We want to take another trip up and visit the schools and really see the area and decide if we want to make the move.

Not sure if we want to focus on Simpsonville or Fort Mill. I would love to hear some more opinions of those 2 areas if anyone wants to highlight them!

Thanks again to all of you!

I live next to Harrisburg (in Concord) and Harrisburg is a great town (as is Ft. Mill). Harrisburg is (without heavy traffic) about 35 minutes apart and is NE of Charlotte.

Hi
We are from FL too and did the same trip except we visited Greenville for 2 days, Charlotte for 2 days and Durham for 1 day. We really liked Greenville and thought the downtown was so nice. Woodruff RD is around the Simpsonville area, very convinient because that road has everything you would need. I just felt Greenville was a lot slower then the bigger cities which thats what we are looking for. Once we got to Charlotte and saw how bad traffic gets it reminded us of Miami or even worst.

I agree the traffic was great in the greenville area and that was on a Friday afternoon/night and Saturday. And even though we didn't get to see alot of it, the highway into greenville was nothing.

I loved seeing people dressed up going to dinner and the horse drawn carriages downtown. We even found a few mice on main street!
