Default Visiting NC/SC opinion needed on what to do!

We are planning a visit the beginning of October (looking to move next summer) and wanted to get the opinion of others. In SC we wanted to see the area of Simpsonville/Greenville and also Tega Cay/Fort Mill/and Harrisburg NC. I was wondering if we should stay 2 nights at a hotel in Simpsonville and 1 night in Charlotte or 2 nights in Charlotte and 1 in Simpsonville. IF we like any of the areas from our short visit we will plan another trip.

We will be getting to the area around 2 pm so we will have late afternoon, early evening on Friday to explore...all day Saturday and all day Sunday, we are planning to leave Monday AM (we have small children).

We were originally going to only stay 2 days and do it all but I'm not sure we would have enough time. Any thoughts?

We aren't going to make a decision on this trip, just want to see if we even like the area. If we like either area we will take another (hopefully longer) trip up there to explore more, then make a decision if its a good move. We are looking for great schools and great place to raise our kids.

Harrisburg looks nice on the internet and relocation package I received....glad to hear its nice!

hey there FLmomof2: I am located in Tega Cay, SC (sorry...we don't have any relo. packages...just me and one of my neighbors on this board )...my vote would be to stay 2 nights in Charlotte and 1 in Simpsonville. If you have any questions on Tega Cay or Fort Mill...feel free to ask away (or when your down here...places where the little ones might want to take a break at...or a place to catch a bite to eat). Good luck to you!

Do you think we could see both Simpsonville and Greenville in 1 day and get a sense of what it is like?

Fort Mills and Tega Cay....Are there a good share of families there?
Any hotel recommendations around those areas (clean, and close to things)?

I am sure I will have tons of questions once I get my stuff together. Definitely have to make time for my girls while we are on this road trip so any recommendations for stops would be GREAT!

Thanks!

First off I will let someone that is familiar with Simpsonville and Greenville answer your question on if you can get a good feel for the area in one day or not?...since I have not been there.

Oh my gosh...there is a Very good share of families in Fort Mill in Tega Cay (for many....folks have found the Fort Mill schools to be excellent...yet want to be away from the city (yet close enough to commute to Charlotte if need be).

If you are just driving around this trip to get a feel for the area the Fort Mill/Tega Cay area won't take you that long....so you might want to stay closer to the Charlotte area where you would have more hotel choices. We only have a few hotels in Fort Mill and they are all across the street from Carowinds (right next to the interstate and NC border...and it doesn't seem to make for a very good mix).

If you want to take a break in the Fort Mill/Tega Cay area there are various parks but some of the highlights would be Windjammer Park in Tega Cay, or Anne Springs Greenway in Fort Mill. In Charlotte there is Discovery Place in uptown Charlotte, and of course Carowinds (which was mentioned above)...Harris Teeter's has had discount tickets. If you are anywhere near Mooresville, NC...my family loves Lazy 5 Ranch.

I would love to take my kids to Carowinds, but not this trip. We basically want to just get a feel for the area and people, so we would rather just make stops at a park or walk outdoor shopping.

I am torn with where to stay 2 nights, because we only want see Harrisburg in NC not really Charlotte (don't want to live in the major city). And I believe Fort Mill/Tega Cay are not that far from there. So not sure if we could do those 3 area's in a day or better to take 2 days.

Any other similar towns/city around there that we may like that anyone recommends?

*Some woman came up to us at Epcot on Sunday and couldn't say enough about the Carolina's, how wonderful it is to raise children there, and lots to do! Very friendly...exactly what we are hoping to find!
