Can anyone help locate where Oak Grove Plantation was located? Reason being is that my great-grandmother was born there in 1859. Family name was Frederick. I also would like to locate the Frederick family graveyard which I am lead to believe is located near Branchville.

I'm from Orangeburg County and have roots in Branchville (it's my mom's hometown). Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the plantation you speak of, or the family graveyard. From your screenname, I assume you are Black? Knowing that bit of info may help me out a bit.

Well you missed on my ethnic background, but I take it as a complement. I use the screen-name because I attended USC and I am please to say I was born in the low-country. As you know South Carolina has a rich heritage due to the diverse cultures that settled here and the contributions of all the races. I am sure there are Fredericks of both races that can trace their heritage to the same piece of Orangeburg county. I would be very interested to hear from all.

Your best bet may be to comb through county records and that sort of thing. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

The county Engineer may be able to help you. I know that in Ohio that they have the location of small family plots. I was able to Locate my wifes Great .... Grandfather who was buried in a Family Cemetary back in the early 1820's. The cematary was located on the back of some ones property.
Good luck. |

I just went to google, I entered: oakgrove plantation near orangeburg.
Google returned enough hits to keep you busy for awhile. In fact I ended up reading a lot of the material which was very interesting. SC history is amazing, especially for the lowcountry, and its great that you you are part of it. Its a shame that people move here from all over the country and love it, but they usually miss getting a feel for the unique place that the the lowcountry is on this planet. This board is fun to share, and google is also great for specific questions about anything imaginable. Last edited by lowcountry; 08-11-2007 at 10:57 PM. |

Hello I noticed you had a search for Frederick and was wondering if it may have ever branched out to or from Fredericks. I have some interesting info if you think it may have but it is based in the old Pendleton district by Seneca. Let me know!

According to a book I am reading about the history of Summerville, SC, Oak Grove plantation was located near the old Town of Dorchester on Dorchester Road in Summerville. Oak Grove consisted approximately of the land where the subdivisions of Ashborough and Ashborough East are now. I hope that helps!
