beaches in SC in November
My sisters and I are driving down in November. We know that isn't the best time to see the beaches, but we want to see the Ocean anyway. Where are the best beaches at that time of year?

If you want to visit a great city(Charleston) and at the same time visit the beach, I would highly recommend the Isle of Palms or Sullivans Island South Carolina just minutes from the Charleston Historic District. Both the Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island are adjacent to the town of Mt. Pleasant, rated the 70th best small city in the US by Money Magazine.

I agree 100% with USCJoe. Charleston is an amazing city with a lot of history, and great beaches are close by. I drive down to Isle of Palms every summer and stay for a week or so and it's great. The beaches are awesome year-round, but of course the water will be cold so don't plan on getting in!

SC Coastline
From Hilton Head to Little River Inlet, the SC coastline is filled with great sites to see, good food to enjoy and wonderful goft courses and shopping. Closest to NC, you have Myrtle Beach with its great hotels right on the ocean, golf courses, a wonderful place called "Broadway at the Beach" with live entertainment, etc. Beyond Myrtle Beach there is a State Park with rental cabins on the ocean for those who love more rustic and natural surroundings. Brookgreen Gardens offers one of the finest displays of outdoor statuary art found anywhere in the world. The Charleston beaches are embraced by a huge seacoast city, which we lovingly call, "the Holy City." Charleston stands for everything southern -- grace, beauty, history, culture. Those gorgeous beaches are thrown in as extra added attractions. Visit "The Yorktown" while on your visit to Charleston and be sure to take a carriage ride near the battery, overlooking historic Fort Sumter. Sightseeing tours of Charleston Harbor and Fort Sumter are also offered. The beaches of SC are wonderful places for sightseeing and walks on the beach but the ocean is too cold for swimming after Labor Day. If you visit once, you will always come back.

I agree that it would be too cold to swim for most people in November, but I've been in the sea in early September, and even in the coolest years, sea temps in SC have been warmer than our lake temps in a heat wave. It seems in late Aug-early Sep it's between 82-88 F. (above 86 F only in heat waves)
By Labour Day I'd still expect the water to be above 80 F everywhere in SC. I also heard that their annual average sea temp is 66 F around Myrtle Beach. Mid-Winter sea temps are often in the high 40's F.
Up here most people find 70 F plus swimmable, but sometimes down to about 60 F. That's the most I can handle without a wet suit. (if it's above 80 F and sunny) Some places like the Charleston area often are a bit warmer, but it seems about half the year would be too cold to swim by Ontarian standards.
I also noted that the water is often cooler around Hilton Head than it is in Myrtle Beach; probably because of the shape of the coast and MB being closer to the Gulf Stream. (an offshore current from the tropics)

if you are more interested in the beaches and partying than definitly go to myrtle beach. if you want to go site seeing than go to charleston. my advice would definitly be to wait till the summer to plan a trip. trust me. its pretty lame when you can lay out or surf.
