i spent a few in Charleston this summer and LOVED it! There's so much history it's unbelievable. Movies have been made there and people are happy to tell you about it.
One thing I have learned through my travels and especially so in the South, if you take an HONEST interest, they you WILL get treated with respect. And this is coming from someone from NY. Many people say my husband and myself make them think twice about Yankees until another idiot comes along.
It's simple manners. be rude and you'll get it back 10 fold. Be polite and appreciative and you'll get to find out what the locals do and where they go. You'll be welcomed also. Put if you dish out an attitude, you'll get it right back to you.
