Red face Cheap SC Start near a Beach

I'd like to relocate to SC from PA.

Could I have some advice on what low-cost neighborhoods are approximately 1 hour from the beaches?
What are the cheapest neighborhoods?
I don't want to be more than 2 hours from the nearest beach.

I would like to do my research but if you folks could give me a head start on Any cheap neighborhoods that'd be great.

I appreciate the help, thanks.

How about Conway SC? I think it's cheap and it's close to Myrtle Beach. Rapture can give you some neighborhoods.

That covers about half of the state. Do you have any other criteria, and what do you mean by cheap?

well, it's good that it can be half the state. That boosts my confidence that not every other state is too expensive. Here in PA there is a belief that the south is much more expensive than the north as far as living costs.

The average rent for an apartment here is: $550-$950
The average rent for a house here is: $800-$1,200

Are the costs in the cheaper areas of SC the same, or are they chearper, or are they more expensive than these figures?

Unfortunately, in my own opinion I don't think the properties here are worth these prices per month. Another issue is that PA is in trouble as far as employment rates, there are no jobs, so people are either stuck in jobs where they are treated poorly or they are unemployed and given a very hard time with qualifying for unemployment.

So I am looking to move to a place that is cheap but has a good amount of job opportunities so I can have the chance to pick my life up and get where I want to be. I don't mind starting at the bottom as long as I can work my way up, but I do not want to live in a projects or an area that is high in crime (of course). I do secretarial / office work.

If this is a hard post to reply to, please refer me to any sites I may find the information I'm looking for. I'm basically doing this solo, and I don't really know how or where to start.

Thanks everybody!

You need to give more info...

Do you want to buy or rent?

What is cheap to YOU? Cheap to one person may not be cheap to another.

What type of work would you be looking for?
What type of pay are you expecting?

Almost any town an hour or two inland is inexpensive here and the job situtaion depends on what you're quailified to do?

Here is a link to the Myrtle Beach Sun News apartment listings. I think Conway/Aynor may be a good start for you.

Default Good Info

I am planning to move next summer. I will be moving alone and will need reasonable housing. I will be looking for employment in the Social Work field.
I may need to rent a house because I have a dog that I can not leave. I plan to look at a couple of the cities you recieved. I still have a lot of work to do before the move but any and all info will be apprieciated.

Good Luck, yes don't leave your dog. You should be able to find a nice reasonable rental. I was driving through Conway the other day (got lost)LOL there's lot of nice little houses with lots of land over there.

Conway is the Horry County seat so if you are looking for social work through the government it is a good place to look. I think you shouldn't have a problem finding decent housing. Coastal Carolina students have to live in the area, too, so that keeps the prices down.
