Which Metros will gain Counties???
Was just wondering which cities would have counties added to their metro or combine with a metro to form a CSA? Possible Candidates:
Columbia-Sumter-Newberry CSA???
Florence-Myrtle Beach CSA/??
Marion County added to Florence Metro
Lee and Clarendon County added to Sumter Metro

Is Oconee County part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson CSA? How about Greenwood County? If not, they probably should be.
Also, Colleton County would seem to be a good fit with the Charleston MSA.

Colleton county use to be part of the Charleston MSA but I guess they remove it. Oconee County is already part of the Upstate CSA and I'm not sure if Greenwood has enough connection with the Upstate to be consider.

Since I have been keeping track of MSA's (25 years or so), Colleton County has not been a part of the Charleston-North Charleston MSA.

Charleston doesn't have a CSA like the upstate does. Not sure why. If so, it would include 8 counties like the upstates, and probably have colleton, georgetown, beaufort, horry county.

I'm from Greenwood, and it is upstate. Went to Greenville for shopping etc. Greenwood High School also competes in region 1AAAA, which is upstate. I can be in Greenwood from my home in Simpsonville in 40 minutes.

Newberry, Sumter and Orangeburg counties have lots of interaction with the Columbia region and could be included in a CSA. Actually, there's already officially a Columbia-Newberry CSA. CSA's don't turn me on, though, because they're hardly ever mentioned in articles about cities and metros. In the media, metro = MSA.

The region hasn't developed in a way to need one, and is not currently trending that way from what I observe. Boeing holds the potential to possibly affect Charleston's employment/commuting dynamic (not in any immediate sense), but as of right now, there's no basis to even begin to speculate on it holding 8 counties, especially Horry.

Actually, I read up on the Census website on why. If an area doesn't have a CSA, it's because, according to the Census site, that area is considered to hover around a central urban hub, whereas places with a CSA are more widespread. The upstate is definitely more spread out amongst its cities, where Charleston is definitely more centralized around the Charleston/N Charleston/Mt P/Summerville region clinging to I-26. Makes sense to me now.
