Red face From San Diego, CA to ??, SC

Hello all-

I'm in an inter-racial marriage, asian by descent (Filipina to be exact) and my husband is caucasian. I've lived all these years in the San Diego, CA area (since 1989) and never been to the East Coast. My husband is being offered a transfer to the South Carolinas by the company he works for and this weekend, we are on our way to spend the weekend looking at houses, maybe check out the scuba diving shops and other areas of interes. We are mostly interested in the Summerville area and it vicinities.

I have a few concerns and hoping that someone might alleviate them:

1) Is it true that the North Charleston is a "bad" area?

2) Being from CA, racism is really not an issue (at least, I've never been exposed to it) but will I encounter such "unfriendliness" when I get there? (I am a well educated person and have an amiable personality, at least that's what my friends tell me...)

3) How is the weather? We've lived with "tremors", are hurricanes or tornadoes rampant in the area?

Please enlighten me....

Luwee

Na, you shouldn't have any problems. Both houses across the street from us are/were Filipino families. They're not related, just happened to live next to each other. They've lived here many years. The one just recently moved though (empty nesters now) and we are not happy that they did. They were good neighbors, as is the other family. The house is still up for sale.

Yes, North Charleston is that bad, but it is also good in certain limited areas. A good Realtor will know where that is.

The weather is pretty mild most of the time, except for the humidity in the summer which could be uncomfortable for you coming from CA. This is our rainy season with all the tropical waves we get during this time of year. This weekend is supposed to be beautiful though. Great house hunting weather.

Unbeknown to most people, the entire state of SC is considered to have a moderate to high risk for earthquakes. Although the risk is high, the frequency is low. Summerville is one of the top spots for greater risk. They say we tremble a little everyday, but it's not intense enough to feel it. Do a google on SC earthquakes and you can read up more for yourself. Hurricanes and Tornadoes are not frequent occurrences. (knocking on wood)
