How many of you are native SCs?
I think I saw where Kat2K was. Anyone else?
My family has been here since 1805 as far as we can trace.
For those who are not native to SC, how long have you been here? Do you like it so far?

I was going to be born here as my parents lived in Myrtle in the 70s, but when I was a month late they decided to move back to WV to be near my dad's family (a lot of my mom's lived there in Myrtle & Georgia but not really the kind of support they needed). I spent most of my summers down here (Myrtle/Georgetown) through the 80s but didn't move down here permanently until Thanksgiving '04.
Do I like it? I don't know, that's hard to answer. We live in the Sumter area and no, we don't like it here. We like going to Columbia but that takes 40 minutes to an hour which sucks a little of the enjoyment out of it (getting there isn't so bad, it's having to drive back at the end of the day).
Plus, I really miss being in the mountains (and my wife likes the mountains, too) so that kind of skews my perspective. I like what I've seen of Greenville from trips (reminds me of home) that way and stuff so I'm going to take the family over this fall to get a good feel for it and check out some neighborhoods. I think getting out of Sumter and into an area like Greenville would really change our outlook.

Ceezer,
Sumter isn't a favorite place of mine either. Like you, I do enjoy the mountains. I just wish they were not so far away.
Have you ever been to the mountains in GA? I really love it there. I also like the areas in NC other than the tourist traps such as Maggie Valley.
Well, I hope things get worked out with your family. Good luck!

I was born and raised here. My parent's are both English though. They moved here two years before I was born. Does that make me a native or not?

my family roots trace back to the 1600's were several came in the dorchester state park and moved inland towards summerville and on up to the cross/st.stephens area... state took 7000 acres of ours to build the santee lakes, only gave people chickens for it...
they trace back farther in the charleston/awendaw area, before they came inland
ingrams island was my grandfathers brothers (Ingram White) by squatters rights, still a lot of family I don't know that owns thousands of acres across the lowcountry cause it's been handed down so long
dats enough of that soap box
but yea I like it here, moved away for awhile to NYC and came back...

I am a first generation Greenville (SC) native. My parents moved here long ago from Pittsburgh and St. Louis. With Greenville and the Upstate being such an awesome place, I cannot imagine ever moving away, unless it would be overseas (Europe) for work.

I'm a South Carolina native - back to my great-great grandparents - who knows before that. I was born in 1969 - and remember my great-grandfather, who lived to be 108 - taking me for a ride with his mule and buggy. He never drove a car. We lived in the Horry County area that borders Marion County - and he remembers as a youth getting a job helping them clear the trees for Hwy 9.

I was born and raised here ... so was my husband.
York County is growing in leaps and bounds.
