This is what we're looking for....We would like to be within 30 min. of a major airport, within 30 min. of a beach and have at least an acre of land to live on. Trying to stay under 225,000, so that being said.....outside Myrtle Beach so far has everything we're looking for.
We researched NC and every town outside Charleston, SC within 30 min., including Johns Island, Goose Creek and at least twenty other towns but could not find anything else that meets our needs and isn't a dump.

LOL....I originally looked in FL but my boyfriend will be commuting once a week to Newark for two days and FL is too far. Believe it or not we have have found a lot of houses that fit my description in Conway, Longs and Loris. I prefer Conway, which has some really nice parts and I'm going back next week to look at some houses and hopefully we will move soon before it gets too cold up here.

Basically, Conway is trashy!! Your home will not have much value if it's with in a "spits throw" to anyone's trailer with garbage all over it! You have to think about what can be seen even 10 miles out! All the trailers that I have seen especially the ones on their own land, looked trashy! As far as the shopping part up above, most white trash have money, because they'll do the jobs that no one wants, construction, warehouse labor, etc. all of which are very good paying jobs! I wouldn't say "White Trash", but just trash! The trash there is extremely nice, very accomodating, and crime rate seems to be low. SC Schools do not have the highest rating, (which can account for why most people call them trash). But I think the most important part is what other people's style of life (garbage in the front yard, 300 cars out back, etc.) can do to the value of yours! Just take a good look around before buying anything, or you will be sorry 20 years from now! Also, if developers are swooping in, there is a REALLY good chance that your house won't be standing in 10 years, because they'll force you out with fair market payment. YES They can do that! You never own anything in this country anymore! If they want the land bad enough, you'll leave. I prefer some place that has nothing in it, with the city just a short drive away.

Can you elaborate on this a little more? South Carolina isn't Connecticut or New Jersey. this state doesn't mess around with eminent domain - we have some of the most strict laws on eminent domain in the nation. In February, for example, the city of Greenville took some land they appraised at $1.4 million. They were taken to court, and were made to pay $5.4 million instead. Basically, the state makes it cost-prohibitive for cities to confiscate land like that.
Besides, Conway has tons of undeveloped land. Why wouldn't they just buy farmland and develop it? Why would they buy land with a house already on it?

Thanks for the opinion but if the people are not educated I'm sure it's not all by choice and mostly has been because they were born there and don't have money to move out. It's really mean and uncalled for to say people are trash because of their education or where they are from. Besides I will take friendly nice people over snobbish mean people anyday.
As far as the area, do you live near there that you know so much about it? If not when is the last time you were there? I was there recently and there is a lot of that area that's really nice with nice houses all around. I did see trailers but some where nicer then some of the houses and people choose them there because they are less expensive. I would prefer not to live next to a beat up trailer with cars in the yard but I will just choose not to buy a house with that issue.
I have friends from NJ also that moved to Myrtle Beach, recently bought a house in Conway and are moving there and love it. NO trailers in sight.
