Yankee??
Hello all!
I just posted, but continued to read other threads. Now I am REALLY concerned about jobs being from NY. But I am not the typical NYer. I am so looking forward to going to a full church and doing church activities and not being looked down on. Up in NY I am automatically considered judgemental and, to some, "crazy". I can't wait to be around a whole state of like-minded people who love the Lord and know what doing God's Will really means. But I am afraid that my "Yankee" status is why I am not getting any job interviews.

I see from your other post that you are in broadcast media. The most likely reason that you are not getting any offers is that you are coming from a major market. Greenville is not anything close to a major market. There may simply not be any positions, or your salary history may be intimidating.
I moved to Aiken last year from Tampa. I am in the Augusta, GA market. I was shocked to find how little news there actually is here. The Fox channel and the ABC channel share studio space, anchors, reporters, and weathermen! Sometimes you can't tell which channel you are watching.
I was used to having 4 hours of news in the morning, an hour at lunch, 2 hours at dinner, and an hour at bedtime. Here there is no local news in the morning, only 2 of the 4 stations have a lunchtime broadcast, 3 have a dinnertime broadcast, and there is 1/2 hour at bedtime on all 4 stations.
So, hang in there. Keep sending out resumes. Consider other fields if you have to.
Good luck!

I find your statement both amusing and troubling. Your attitude concerns me, because it implies a prejudice toward your "way of thinking" and, in fact, seems to look down on those who don't share your views.
I'm not surprised that you've had trouble jobhunting. In my humble opinion, you have a self-righteous attitude that will serve you well in many churches here, but I don't think it will serve you well in the workplace.
I do, however, wish you God's blessings and peace when you find your place.

May I put in my 2 cents here? I agree, that statement sounded a little self-righteous, but I think you should know the "climate" in NJ/NY when it comes to Christianity.
Religion is quite a private issue in the Northeast. No one asks where you worship/if you worship. Faithful Christians who do talk about their religion can quickly be labeled "Jesus Freaks". It's a society that has become afraid to say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Easter" so that we don't offend people of other faiths. Jews in the Northeast band together and form strong bonds (which they should), but in general, Christians don't practice the same brother/sisterhood.
Deebrio may just be looking forward to moving to a place that doesn't require him to apologize for his beliefs. Or, maybe he is self righteous and judgmental (???). Don't know but I wanted to give your another view.

Well, thank you for the explanation; however, since I moved here four years ago from Manhattan, I believe I understand Deebrio's context. I just don't care for the statement, whether he or she comes from NY/NJ or NC. And I don't believe in being politically correct, so it's not that. It's simply that it was, to me, a condescending and narrow-minded thing to say.

I do not think this person is self righteous, condescending or narrow minded, I think they KNOW what it means to worship God and love Him. And bet they are very happy and have peace in their life.

I guess that's one reason why I don't agree with so many of the Christians around here.
I know that God is Love, not judgment.

Yes God is love, but there will come a time when the everyone will be judged.
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in our bodies.

I doubt that. IMO, that stuff about yankees not being welcome in the south is an old form of joshing around. The vast majority of people celebrate what's good about each other, take what they like, leave the rest, and live and let live.
I could have papered my walls with rejection slips. I never took it personal or beat up on myself. I refused to take it as a personal affront, even when I knew the male hiring official was harem-building. I got over it and went on, got promotions elsewhere.
Not knowing all the particulars, not seeing your resume, and not seeing your conduct in an interview, I'll withhold alll speculation.
Best of luck to you.
s/Mike
