Default Hilton Head or Bluffton...?

So I'm being pursued by a physical therapy company with 2 new facilities in both Bluffton and Hilton Head. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio now and I hate the weather here. Pretty much just because of the gloom and gray. I have family here but I am so ready for sunshine.

I spent a summer doing research in Charleston and it is my favorite city in the world. Just wondering if these locations can stack up or come close. I'm wary about taking a job in either for 2 reasons:
1. At first, google portrays both areas as retirement communities. Nothing against working with retirees every day, but as a PT I get REALLY tired of treating low back / hip / total joint replacement patients and hope to start my career somewhere that I will be able to work with more high school athletes and young adult / weekend warrior types instead.
2. I went to college for a while in St. Petersburg FL and i HATED that the entire city was geared toward tourism. Charleston has such a rich history and legitimate local population, I worry that Bluffton or Hilton Head would be more just tourism traps, ie "nice place to visit but I wouldn't wanna live there" type places.

I currently live in a very up-and-coming area in the outskirts of Cincinnati. It's like 60% young professionals, newly weds, and starter families with a lot of old houses getting rehabbed to modern standards and full of locally-owned coffee shops, bars, and opportunities for community sports/recreation. I love it and would ideally want to move someplace similar.

Also, for what it's worth, I don't play golf, and not just because I suck at it. I can certainly live without being on/near the beach so long as there is sunshine MOST of the year.

So what would you folks recommend? Alternatively, this company also has 3 new locations all located in GA, all within an hour of Atlanta. Would love to get any advice! Thanks!

There will be more mature people (over 55) in Bluffton and Hilton Head then you are use to. If choosing between the two, HH can be very crowded and heavy traffic on/off the Island via Rte 278 can be a traffic horror show especially during tourist season.

If under 40 and no kids, you might feel more comfortable in the greater Atlanta area.

Sounds like you a pretty young, so this area could be a stretch. However, if it boils down to just a choice between HH and Bluffton, I would choose Bluffton since it would be a tad bit easier to drive to Charleston and Savannah.

I currently live in Bluffton, after moving from Iowa. My thoughts are I enjoy Hilton Head more, it has a lot of more upscale restaurants and entertainment although neither compare to Charleson(also a fan!) I also find the people to be a bit snooty and rude at times, seem like New Yorkers. Which I am not a fan of but that may not affect you. Good Luck!

Patty, we're moving to Bluffton next year (from New Joi-see), but I promise you we won't bring down any attitudes. We are so grateful to be leaving NJ it's not funny!

My mom lives in Hilton head and absolutely loves it. She does sometimes complain about how quiet it gets during the winter months. I personally have been thinking about moving to Bluffton. It's a short ride to enjoy HHI and not quite as small and secluded.
