Gov. Haley experienced "ageism" have you?
Govenor Niki Haley in her new book says she experienced a few things that she disliked one was "AGEISM."
Have you had the experience? Have you just perhaps felt it in the air?
I like to have friends of all ages. I've heard it mentioned though on line how someone would be " too old for them to date." Sometimes being just a few years older then the person talking. Other mentions like...
The "old" people of their neighborhood don't keep up their homes.( really now)
"Old people are out of touch about who to vote for." hemmmmmm...
Onetime, being older myself, I was taken to " here's what you would like."
It was some overstuffed recliners...LOL.
Well, I love, love, transitional. I spend a ton of time looking at furniture books like Coastal living, and Romantic Homes. I am greatly into decor and it wouldn't be overstuffed recliners. I think that was entirely "ageism."
So, I think it is quite frequently that we come across this.
One thing I sincerely hate is when a doctor talks to you like your lacking any knowledge or background. Gosh, age is wisdom, it is years of learning. Maybe, they should talk to a 20 year old with that kindergarden jabber.
Anyhow, I think Niki is just experiencing what all of us will one day go through. Its out there and its going strong.
Jobs are hard to come by for older people as we know. There isn't any magic to change age and time. Although, being younger doesn't mean being better in the least.
I for one am glad I find fun in all age people. I was always good with teens. I've had 30 year olds to our dinner table. I've had dinner with 70 year olds too. In life one should enjoy people of all ages. Why not?
Ageism...A word I dislike! And...How about you?

Gosh... no one...So I guess we all feel young at heart.
I'd love to hear, that you don't have such cause, as to find yourself belittled with the ageism issue.

I work with people that are older then me, some of them think I know nothing, but I surprise them routinely.

Well, Thank you Mustand for your answer...I love it!
What the younger ages don't know is that. we still do all the same things. We just visit the doctors office more often. (lol)
I always like decor. I now have time to indulge in it. I have the "time" for it. When my girls were home I was busy with their needs.
I have more fun now as my girls and I seem to like the same decor, but in different tones and lifestyles. We enjoy seeing each others style.
The age thing gets a bit worn. What is too old? What is too young? ( well in some cases of course)
I still feel I am learning everyday, so then...I have lots of years of having learned new things!
The Governor experienced "ageism." Such a surprise for a lady who is not that old, nor shows it.
People who think life stops with age are so wrong. There is more time to enjoy friends, hobbies, gatherings, and travel. Age is a good thing.

Not good to be unfairly judged
I have friends who range in age from the 20's to the 90's and just about every age in between. I also happen to enjoy some children more than I do some adults, because very often children are so fresh and open-minded and don't judge people superficially. To me, there are few things sadder than someone who judges another by looks, age or jumps to conclusions without having all the facts. I have never been the victim of age discrimination (so far!) but I have seen it happen all too often to others. I have been frequently and unfairly judged for other superficial reasons.
Hence my motto: Go ahead, underestimate me! (Based on Dirty Harry's line - Go ahead, make my day!) Because if someone does underestimate me, they are in for a big surprise!
One of the things that I have learned by all of this is that sometimes it can be to my advantage when people underestimate me and then bam, they realize that I am so much more than they realized.
And also, what I have learned is to never underestimate others. Everyone should be given the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. So many frail looking older people are overlooked when in fact, they have so much wisdom and so much to offer if only people would take the time to listen to them. Same thing with the very young in that they are often wise beyond their years.
MustangEater82, I can really relate to what you said. It's very unfortunate, but don't you just love the bam, surprise moment when they realize that you know much more than they gave you credit for?

Yes, Sum, I feel exactly the same way. I hardly ever look at the main SC forum, which is why I didn't even see your post until yesterday.
