Default Interested in Relocating to South Carolina

Hello,

I'm currently reside in the Philadelphia region and work in NJ. My wife and I have been researching a possible move before starting a family. Our primary reasons to relocate include high real estate prices/taxes and poor weather conditions. We've determined South Carolina as the best destination for us and are now now trying to narrow down the city.

Since we plan to start a family soon, we are searching for a safe, suburban area with a good public school system. We also prefer to be near a downtown with a variety of nice restaurants and bars and within an hour from the beach. Our price range is ideally from $200,00 ~ $400,000.

Also, I work in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry as an Automation Engineer, so a short commute for my industry would be important.

Are there any cities which closely match our criteria with a warm, temperate weather without much rain?

Columbia has the suburb scene you seek with good schools, but it's about two hours from the beach (Some people claim an hour and a half, but watch for cops). There are good restaurants both in town and in the suburbs. Nephron, an Orlando-based pharmaceuticals manufacturer and research firm is building here now. They plan to hire 700, and at ground-breaking they said they probably will hire more than that eventually. In the summer you'll need to remind yourselves from time to time that in the winter you won't be shoveling snow.

Bluffton is a community just inland from Hilton Head. Lots of new restaurants and shops.
Summerville is a community just inland from Charleston. More of a small town, old, quaint feel to it. Lot's of unique shops and restaurants.
Avoid the Myrtle Beach area and all communities in the northeastern corner of the state.

Charleston is the place you are looking for. Can't beat the beauty, history and the absolute great restaurants in the old City. The beaches are right there.

And I noticed that you failed to read the article. It certainly says a lot more than what you would like to give credit.

“The people of Charleston are honored by their selection as Condé Nast Traveler's Readers Choice No. 1 Top U. S. Destination,” said Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. “We love to share our extensive heritage and tradition of hospitality. It is thrilling to see that the visitors who come here not only enjoy what they see and experience, they also find an open welcome from the city. Great food and lovely hotels add much to the enjoyment of our guests who come either for a day or a week! We look forward to the opportunity to show visitors what makes Charleston a great place to visit.”

Voters annually evaluate cities based on six categories: Atmosphere/Ambience, Culture/Sites, Friendliness, Lodging, Restaurants and Shopping with the Readers’ Choice Top City Award bestowed upon the destination with the highest composite appeal.

It's nice to know I'm intriguing enough for someone to notice what I read and don't read on here. I've read the chamber boost before.
