I found all you have to say about Mt. Pleasant very interesting. Does anyone know what the average yearly price for flood insurance runs in that area? Thanks in advance for your help.

Check out Longs, SC, I visited there a few months ago and there are some nice communities more openness as well. Houses are not too close together and it is not congested.
Good luck!

Not all areas in Mt Pleasant fall under flood insurance - we are in Brickyard Plantation and are under $1650 per year, our neighbours pay somewhere around $1500 - house prices $360-$400K in The Preserve.

tracey, what do you need in the way of schools and employment? Because, for example, you could get plenty of rural privacy near the coast in McClellanville, but your kids might have to go to a private school and there aren't that many jobs there (many of the people in McC are retired).

Aiken has plenty of large acreage lots with better schools and jobs nearby, but it's not as close to the coast.

Default Relocating to Mt. Pleasant from PA

My husband and I are going to relocate to MTP in 2 years. We chose MTP because we have an 8 year old and we read online that MTP schools are very good. We have been looking at the recent home listings and we continue to be unsure of which neighborhood we would like to live in. One of our big concerns is that we have an enclosed trailer that we use to haul a motorcycle. Does anyone know which neighborhoods in MTP allow enclosed trailers? The trailer is 9ft. high, so it doesn't typically fit into a normal sized garage. Also, we have a pontoon boat that we will need to store. I did find a few neighborhoods that have boat storage, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Any input you can give us is appreciated

Tracey

There is always town envy, especially about Mount Pleasant. This is typical envy of upmarket, more expensive, higher income, more desireable towns. Many talk negative about them until they can afford to live there then they are often the first to try and limit others from living there......LOL

One thing you should mention is what are your spending guidelines. As an example you will pay well over $300K and closer to $400K for a nice home in Mount Pleasant and closer to $500K for one with more then 1/2 acre. Compared to much of SC, Mount Pleasant is a very desireable place to live no matter what anyone from North Charleston or Summerville says.......LOL

Hope this helps.

You haven't made note of budget or employment. Both are going to be factors in where you live.

That said Aiken is gorgeous and very horse oriented. But those larger parcels are not necessarily cheap. Depending of course on what you definition of affordable is.

You might also want to look upstate, in the towns surrounding Greenville. Traveler's Rest might be very suitable for you. You can be close enough to city amenities but still out in the country.

Whatever gets your interest, don't forget to check zoning regulations, if you want to keep animals.
